Twice in a Week

Agricultural related jobs are dangerous. Farmers, ranchers, growers, harvesters and grain elevator operators and employees. They are all at risk. Twice this week men have fallen into grain elevators and rescue crews have spent hours carefully pulling them out of the stored crop. I saw an interview of the one rescued earlier this week and he credits being in his safety equipment for saving him. He had on a safety harness that prevented him from being sucked clear to the lower levels of the beans that were being stored. I am guessing soybeans, but it does not matter. The second person has just been freed and is enroute to a hospital. Can you imagine the sensation of being buried alive? I am sure many people are giving thanks for the safety of these workmen.

We don't give our farmers enough credit for the work they do. They risk their lives to supply us with food. I remember watching a movie or documentary where someone was trapped in a grain bin. It was horrific to watch. I couldn't imagine how it must feel to be helpless and think that your life could end at any moment if rescue efforts are not successful.

We should be thanking them for the great job they do and pray for their safety.

I saw a story about one farmer getting getting caught in some equipment a few years back. What he went through was horrible. Lost a lot of blood and pretty much had to carve himself out of it.

Oh my goodness, what a terrible thing. I cannot even want to think to this kind of accident.

You are so right, they risk their lives to provide food for our tables and to feed our animals. I don't think farmers get the respect they deserve.

A couple of years ago one of the most upstanding, well known and beloved men of the farming and general community was impaled against a shed by a fork on his tractor. His wife found him. We are experiencing such harsh times on the land with no significant rain since July 2012 that I'm thinking it must be very difficult to be 100% focused on the job at hand.

It is a miracle these men were saved. It seems a very dangerous job for sure Heather. I am so glad to hear they made it too. That would be most horrifying to think you are going to die as such.

All those jobs and many others the workers risk their lives for us. And no one is thankful at all.

Thank goodness they were wearing their safety equipment. They all do have such dangerous jobs. I also saw a interview months ago about this same thing.
