Soaking Up Sunshine

Hubby and I decided to have a vacation day after going for a big family visit over the weekend. I had a doctor's appointment first thing. We then had brunch before going to a small Kansas Wildlife zoo, the Carey Park Zoo. We also shopped a little at Hobby Lobby before going to Dillon Nature Center. We checked out inside the visitor center, and then walked around one of the trails. This one was around a man made "lake"-- a pond. At one point we looked over some of the small walls to see a bunch of turtles. All but two of them immediately took off. We counted sixteen turtles in all. Only two of them stayed close. You could see that they all were enjoying the chance to soak up some sunshine. It snowed yesterday. Here is their Facebook page:

It is called five kids in a tree. It has the energy of five kids even if it is a statue.

@just4him That sounds good to me. Amusement park rides are not quite my thing.

@GardenGerty We have a couple places around here that you can get in free, though for the amusement park, the rides cost, but they are very inexpensive. The Wildlife Sanctuary is free to get in and see everything.

I have yet to get to see the inside of a Hobby Lobby. The closest one is an hour drive north. Maybe one Friday I can convince someone to ride with me so I can browse. There is nothing I truly need to buy, but I'll enjoy looking around. No way could I bring my husband with me. He could only browse a store if it was a sporting goods store.

We went in today to Hobby Lobby to just get what we came for. Last time we were in this town hubby was sleepy and rested in the truck while I spent almost two hours, and spent less than fifteen dollars. We are at least an hour from three of them. They have online stores, and the codes you can scan for a coupon if you have the right phone and then there is always a 40% off one item coupon to print before you go.

@GardenGerty oh wow! I'll have to see if I can download the app and check out the online stores too. Even so, I would like to browse the actual brick and mortar store one day.

@ElusiveButterfly Yes, you want to touch and look in person. Check the texture of the yarns. You can get really neat yarn from Joanns, and get coupons for there too.

@celticeagle This will be our first summer here, so I will have to see how good that high wind feels when the weather is hot.

It was sunny and cold today. We started to clean up the damage from yesterday's gale force winds.

I bet you still have quite a chill in the air, sun or no sun. We have a tiny bit of roof damage here.

@GardenGerty this past weekend and even Monday with all the wind and rain it was quite mild. Today was sunny and cold, tomorrow a mix of sun and cloud and mild....then we head back to winter for a few days.

There were places where it was still snowy, because Kansas had snow on Sunday morning.

If you have a Kansas license you can fish in this stocked pond, but I have a feeling that it would be a bit too tame for you.

@GardenGerty Maybe so lol, I love a smallish lake, we don't go on the huge ones thought, I hate all that skiing and mess. Disturbs the fish.
