States are moving to restore work requirements for food stamp recipients. The able bodied without children will once again be required to work for their food stamps or be enrolled in a training program. There also will be other changing coming. Those benefits should be used for necessities, they can not use them at casinos, strip clubs, massage or tattoo parlors.

Well, I think that this is a good plan. I understand that some people need the food stamps, but I would not agree to see people use them to play at the casino.

@LadyDark It is good and Obama discontinued it when the economy went down hill but now it will be implemented again. No people on food stamps do not need to be going to the casino, if they go then they don't really need the food stamps.

In some places, not sure if it is everywhere, people can use their food stamps at KFC and other fast food places. I don't agree with that at all. I think they should be used strictly for food at a grocery store.

@simone10 I don't agree with that either as they should only be allowed to be spent at grocery stores.

@simone10 No using food stamps at fast food places does not promote good health but I guess some people think their food stamps say food and so they think ok fast food is food so I will go there.

@Marcyaz You would think the government would be concerned and want people to eat healthy but allowing stamps to be used at fast food places does not promote good health.

@carebear29 That sounds good if you have to volunteer to get food stamps or even have some kind of job.

I think I saw the worst of this program. I was broke, as in barely from being on the street. my checks covered rent and power, my x's unemp check (he was looking for work, honestly looking, as he had gotten laid off), covered water, phone, basic net for job searching (library didnt have pcs or was even open much in a town that small), and like car ins. The one car payment we had got paid somehow, prob why there was no food money, but that was the ONLY car we had so I could get to work... There was...maybe 5 dollars left for food. We had cut everything out. We had no credit cards. We had no tv. We had no cells. We were eligible for like 30 a month.... I'd see the illegals come in, with their american children and their stamp card with 500+ on buying junk (I worked at minimart, 30 odd hours a week), then they'd pull out wads of cash and buy smokes, booze, and scratch offs. What did I eat? The expired stuff and the stuff in the hot case at the end of the night that was going to get pitched. This made me think the system needed overhauled. Community service, limits on what one can purchase (like WIC certain things just shouldnt be allowed, no cokes, no junk, etc.). Something.

@Jessicalynn Wow so you do see a need for a change especially when illegals receive more than we who are citizians recieve almost nothing.

@Marcyaz I think there needs to be more checks on anyone needing, plus you aught to be able to work certain places like community outreaches, highway trash pick up, city park cleanups to earn some assistance while you look for work, for those who can

I just got my notification for the six month review. I'm considering not renewing as the amount I get due to my Social Security and my son's work isn't worth it for me to renew again.

@just4him If it isn't worth it for you to continue receiving food stamps then that is good for you.

@Marcyaz With my limited income it makes it hard to pay my bills and eat too. I wish they would take that into consideration when they see you have an income.

That's a good control where it will prevent dependency and it will make people help themselves by encouraging them to work and giving them skills to do it. We do not have it in our country.

@acelawrites It is a good thing and I don't believe in giving to people for nothing, I believe they need to do some kind of work or take a training course before they are given anthing at all. To bad they don't do something like this in your country.

I think there is probably more fraud that it shows, that's only the fraud they discovered somehow. I do think single adults should work for their food stamps in some way to benefit the community. There are usually soup kitchens somewhere in every community that require nothing from singles so no one should go hungry.

As your graphic indicates, food stamps and the recipients thereof are badly misunderstood. Perceived abuse and fraud are exaggerated, and a lot of the suggested changes in certain states just end up costing the tax payers more money.
