The evidence was there. Scattered on the shelf, behind the canister of oatmeal. At the start of the winter I had waged war on the local mouse population. After a week or two of constantly setting mousetraps in strategic locations the problem was eliminated. Now there was evidence that they were back. Tonight I set a mousetrap, walked to the living room and before I could sit down I heard a very satisfying snap. One mouse down. ? How many more will I catch?

Ugh! I had such terrible trouble with mice last year. Nothing like finding droppings on top of the mantel, in the couch cushions, on the coffee table. I hate those things! When we got a bunch of leaks in our house my husband found an opening he felt they were coming in through and blocked it. We only had one mouse at the beginning of winter (the traps were still set) and nothing since. I hope to never see another mouse in my house again!

It seems to be seasonal. I get them in the fall, and early spring.. Most of them are field mice looking for shelter.

@Morleyhunt I don't care where they come from. I don't want them in my house.

@patgalca I don't want them in my house either. Hence the mouse traps. I do have an ultra sound device that helps, but doesn't seem to stop them entirely.

Hopefully not too many, though I am sure you don't want survivors.

@Morethanamom I'd actually prefer that they don't wander into the house. They are not welcome.

It will make me happy when I don't catch any more mice and don't spot any more mouse droppings.

No, we are in a rental house and have no place to even consider placing a litter box.

If your downstairs neighbour has mice, there is a good chance they have visited you as well.

When I was living in my old house we had a mouse problem and wound up setting those glue boards all around. We stepped on more than the mice did

I find the old fashioned mousetrap is the most effective. Glue boards didn't catch many mice.

Sometimes it seems they're never-ending. Luckily they can't get into this house unless we leave the door open.

We have caught four. No new sprung traps, no new mouse droppings.. Fingers crossed we are done with mice for a few months.

Where there's one mouse, there are more! The bait stations are quite efficient. The mice bring the poisoned food back to the nest and share it, which means you get rid of many more than just the one that took the bait. It's important to plug up holes and such, too. Did you know they can wiggle through a hole as small as the diameter of a pencil-top eraser? It's a nightmare with older homes, let me tell you!

We don't own this home. The person who renovated about six years ago, left a gold plated invitation to the mice, giving them the run of the lower kitchen cupboards. If I close off access now, I will have frozen pipes in the winter. Mousetraps are my friend.
