Hello, dear mylotters.
Today I jumped out of my bed. Maybe I should not say I jumped; I was thrown out of the bed.
I woke up with the biggest cramp there is and the only way it subsides is to sit and move my toes little by little. I still feel pain in my calf, but it is bearable.
I often have these cramps and I know that it is not by a lack of potassium. Thus, I don´t have to have the banana that everyone talks about.
Should I walk more, I wonder? Do you have cramps too?

I get really bad cramps, sounds like you get the same where it hurts for a surprisingly long time afterwards - I can have bad pain for days after a serious cramp in my calf. I do think mine probably has something to do with a lack of potassium though. I also remember reading something years ago about how it can be a sign of dehydration, and it did get a lot better after I started to drink more water

@LilyBeBack this is also very common with pregnancies and after wards. Calcium, magnesium, potassium are all depleted and muscles are stressed as well. Let's all go drink more water and do a few stretches now.

@GardenGerty I can't wait for him to be out now, and I've still got two months left before the due date - I dread to think how I'll be feeling in the final fortnight

I have even had doctor´s check for my potassium and it is fine. At 70 years of age, I will not think about pregnancies

It can be from a lack of magnesium, which is also in many foods including but not limited to bananas. I am getting the cramps often and for me it also happens after I have gotten chilled. If I were to remember, I would do calf stretches before going to bed. There is a move that is called a wall push up that helps prevent them. Sometimes it can also be from dehydration. If you can stand and put all of your weight on the affected leg this will often lengthen the cramping muscle. Actually I appreciate this discussion because it is reminding me to take my own advice and go stretch.

I am not bothered by them but my wife gets them. But she only seems to get them when she is in bed.

I get cramps often at the arch of my foot so I just often massage that area with oil to promote good cirrculation and prevent it from getting cold.

I get those leg cramps occasionally and they are so painful....they make me jump out of bed too. Usually I just walk around until the pain subsides
