My favorite lunch is a combination of kimchi, sardine and rice porridge. Kimchi is fermented vegetable and it is a national dish of Korea. The only thing I need to cook is rice porridge. I can buy kimchi and tin of sardine from the supermarket near my house. There are many brands of Kimchi and sardines available. I like sardine in olive oil. I will buy a few more tins when there is a special promotion. As for kimchi, there are so many brands available that I can choose the cheapest of all. This is my favorite lunch because it is healthy, and requires minimum cooking and cleaning up. Image credit to http://cuisineworld.blogspot.sg/

I am not very interested in Kimchi. I like many kinds of rice porridges. But I don't like the plain rice porridge very much. I like to have some ingredients inside, it can be vegetables or fish, meats etc.. As to sardine, I especially like the sardine with tomato sauce.

Rice porridge is too plain to eat on its own. I like the combined taste of both kimchi and sardine. Kimchi is fermented vegetable, and sardine is a meat dish. A serving of fruit will make a very balanced meal.

Yes, I bought them from the supermarket too. It is very convenient, and the quality is consistent. I cannot imagine buying "home-made" version, as I am sure nobody here makes kimchi at home.

It's good that you enjoyed your healthy and easy to prepare lunch. I don't know why, I don't enjoy kimchi, I just don't like the taste. Perhaps I haven't taste the very good one. Do they sell kimchi in can as well?

@kaka135 I like cabbage kimchi, not the other kinds of kimchi. I think you can take a look in the supermarket for the different kinds of kimchi available

Yes, Korean food is never without kimchi. I think the cold weather there means they must ferment the vegetables, else they will not have vegetables all the time.

If you like fermented food, you will like kimchi. It is basically vegetables fermented with spices.

@Dextoi of course I bought from the supermarket. There is no point in going through all the trouble, make your house stinks when you can just buy for a few dollars.

The taste of kimchi complements the sardines, and since rice porridge is rather plain, it is a good dish to wash down the strong taste of both kimchi and sardine.

Rice porridge is good but if it's added some meat like fish, chicken or duck, it will be more delicious!

Adding sardine to rice porridge is good enough. Sardine is fish, considered a meat, and usually come in sardine sauce. Kimchi is fermented vegetables. So a meal with kimchi, rice and sardine gives all the essential nutrients.

You have to go to Asian supermarket to buy kimchi. It is fermented vegetables. The most common kimchi is cabbage kimchi, but you can get other types of kimchi too.

Actually it is easy. You just add more water to the rice grain, and then boil it till the grains are cooked.

My favourite dish is Aosh, a Persian dish that is really very healthy and easy to make. Maybe later will pass on the recipe for food lovers here.

That sounds like an odd mix to this Canadian, although each of the individual components sounds yummy. Now I'm wishing I had sardines in the house!

Many dishes have become a mix of east and west, especially over here in my country. We have dishes from all over the world, and every day, we have to decide whether we want western (if yes, what kind of western), or Chinese or Indian or other dishes.
