Do you get what you pay for?

A couple of years ago we went to Albany, Western Australia, for the re-enactment of the leaving of the first fleet of soldiers to go to World War I from Australian shores. There were many things going on in the town and one of the stalls Vince visited was displaying various whiskies from a local distillery.
Since 2011, Limeburners Distillery from Albany, WA, has been winning silver and bronze medals for their single malt whisky at the international Wine and Spirit Competition held annually in London. At one, the judge swore that the whisky had been in barrels for at least 15 years but the time period had actually been much shorter. Vince's source said this was because much smaller barrels are used at this boutique distillery. Be that as it may, the distillery has a very prestigious reputation.
After talking to one of the proprietors and sampling one of the cheaper whiskes, his companion offered him a sample of a $500 bottle. Vince left the stand one very impressed man.
When we visited Albany a few weeks ago, we took the opportunity to visit the distillery. Vince paid a small sum to again taste the $500 whisky. Luckily we didn't have that much money on us or he might have been tempted.
If you had the money, would you spend that much on a bottle of whisky?

Even if I were fond of whisky, I wouldn't pay that amount of money for a bottle. I am sure that there are people who would if they had the money to do so though.

@ElusiveButterfly I can't understand why people want flavoured water. Our rainwater is just the best. It doesn't need anything added.

if I had the money to spare maybe, because if I did, money would have much less value so why not

@Jessicalynnt I think I'd get a cleaner once a week while the money lasted. :)

Fair enough. At the end of it all you'd just have an empty bottle - and possibly a headache.

I doubt it. I tend to be horrified when my husband spend $35. On a bottle of scotch.

Not personally as I don't like whisky enough, but if I did and had the money then I guess I would.

l do not drink whisky but even if l did, I don't think I would have.Having said that, people are different with their money, some will think, I like it,I must have it.
I'm just more careful with money so there is no way l will but a $500 bottle of whisky

It is much too much for our budget too. But it was nice that he was able to taste it.

I'm not a drinker so I wouldn't. I can't honestly imagine spending that kind of money on anything to eat or drink.

Me either. I'd only spend that amount on big item things.

I think $500 is pretty steep, even for a whisky lover. I would have to be a pretty rich woman, to think of paying that much for a bottle of spirits. Even for my Glayva, which is only about $30-$40 a bottle, I'll forego when money is tight. It's a luxury item for me.

There is no way we'll ever buy a bottle of anything at that price but he did enjoy his tasting. :)

I wouldn't purely because I'm not a whisky drinker, I don't like the taste and I've no clue what'd be a good whisky or a bad whisky.
I do get why people would spend serious money as it's their interest and they're experts.
I absolutely would spend the equivalent money on some food/drink that I was interested in or had a taste for.
I like brandy but I'm no expert.
If I had serious money I would spend it on a taste of 200 year old brandy...partly for the taste and also because it's pretty unusual to be able to drink a 200 year old product.
