Using finished products as ingredients

We know chocolate is used to make chocolates. I do not use chocolate but I use cocoa powder. There are other items too that are made using finished products such as the biscuit cake. Here again I prepare using the age old recipes - different recipes for different types of cakes.
Do you use finished products as ingredients. Have you tasted these items. Is there any difference?

@Mike197602 they cut leftover pizza(finished product) into a size of fries (or a bit bigger).. and put it back in to the oven with some more cheeze and a bit of sauce.
thats different from cakes and biscuits though.

I just wondered how that relates to home made things?
I know I can make a pizza absolutely from scratch including the base and even the tomato puree but I don't know about pizza fries as I've never heard of them.

I think biscuits are often used as a cheesecake base rather than making the base from scratch.
In tiramisu ladys fingers are used rather than making from scratch.

I like to make things from scratch. Home made is home made after all.

@allknowing That's true but often buying some things is just easier.
I like to make lasagne but I don't make the pasta sheets, I could but I don't, it's easier to buy them.
Making a cheesecake is easy but if you had to make the biscuits to use for the base it'd be way harder.
Time is also an issue...with busy lives many choose to buy in things rather than make them because they just don't have the time.

@Mike197602 I know what you are saying but when everything is made from scratch that is considered to be a truly home made product. which is rare these days.

but isn't cocoa powder slightly bitter than chocolate?

Other ingredients like sugar and stuff give the chocolate a sweet taste.

There are no doubt exceptions and yes chocolate mousse needs dark chocolate.

I also do not feel comfortable using ready made ingredients. There is another frozen dessert where biscuits are kept in layers with soft icing stuffed in between layers. and then the whole thing is covered with soft icing probably adding some chocolate colour and frozen.

@allknowing I do use biscuits in this way and I crush them for a slice recipe that I make.

@JudyEv There is no harm per se but nothing like doing anything from scratch.

I think it is more like a substitute. Like using apple sauce to replace eggs or something like that.

Using apple sauce instead of eggs seems a rare choice. Explain (lol)

@allknowing It is good for cakes and banana bread. It does the same exact things as eggs haha.

I try not to, because the point of my making things myself is to avoid all those nasty little additives. I really hate it when I see "Easy Lemon Pie" and it includes "a package of lemon pudding" and "frozen pie shell." (Incidentally, I have found a really easy lemon pie, and I intend to write a post about it soon. When I remember...)
