Too much break?!

I needed a break, but it seems like I have been taking too much break from my work this week. There was an unexpected power outage, so I couldn't do my work. My parents and sister visited us these two days, though I'd like to work, I haven't been spending much time with them for quite some time, so it's good for me to spend some time with them. My nephews were playing happily with my kids as well. So, I have been taking 3 day offs for this week. Though it's good to take a break, that means I have to rush for these days work in the weekend. Sometimes there can be too many distractions for a freelancer, unless I put a sign board "Working Hours - Please do not disturb". Well, I am not complaining, but just I am reminding myself to work harder in the following days!! Do you set a "do not disturb" rule while you are working?

Are you busy with gardening and Spring? Perhaps it's good to take a break from mylot, and have more offline activities.

@kaka135 I have been busy because we had several medical appointments for my husband, then we had to renew our ID and finally I also had to take care of the garden.

I don't but then I'm retired, and while I earn money here at mylot I am just here for the fun of it all.

That's good. I am fine if I take a break from mylot, though I miss this land, there's no deadline or commitment at all. But, when I am taking too much break from my software project, I need to rush for it and meet the deadline.

@fishtiger58 Yes, I'd prefer to have no deadline. Though I enjoy doing the programming work, it'd be nicer if there's no deadline for it.

I have taken too many breaks from mylot and the computer as a whole this week, so I will have to work faster today and tomorrow.

I think it's still good to take a break from mylot and computer, and do some offline activities. At least you don't have a deadline for mylot. I will have to rush for my software project, as the deadline is very near, and I have missed too many days now.

@marguicha I guess all of us know that, but we still do that. Sometimes I am grateful for my children's disturbance, so I can take a break from my computer.

@kaka135 I know that it is not healthy to be at the computer for too long a time

Very good you got time to bond with your family. I don't put a do not disturb sign but I do mention to whoever near me not to talk to me if I'm busy lol

I'd like to tell that to my young children, but they will still come to me, especially my little girl.

It would be nice if we could time those welcome interruptions to our schedules, but we can't. At last those were happy events that kept you from your work instead of emergencies.

Yes, I guess sometimes we just need to schedule for some interruptions, though that means I'll have to work harder (hopefully I will have enough time) later.

I think many who work from home would find distractions a problem sometimes. And people don't always think 'working from home' is real work.

Yes, you are right. It seems like many people thought stay-at-home moms are very free at home too. Even though they are not working from home, they might still have lots of things to do daily.

@kaka135 That is very true. It is a busy life just running a home especially if there are children in the house.

We have an old saying here: Taking a break is to walk further Don't worry about taking breaks, you will work much more efficiently after that

I like to say that too. It's just that time is short, and I am now fighting for time now. But anyway, what is over is over, I'll always look forward and move forward.

I am sorry to hear you had power issues. Hate that when that happens here. I am retired so I have an open schedule. If I was writing a book or something for true big time publication I would definitely tell family and friends that I write from this time until this time. Please don't call or come over during that time. I am a night owl. I enjoy the night time. All is quiet and the kids are asleep. I wait until then. I think it is up to us and the boundaries we set for ourselves.

It'd be good to tell family and friends if we are rushing for a deadline, but since my parents don't visit us very often, I have to spend time with them. I have become a morning person in these recent years, and I agree that it's so nice to have the quiet environment to work, especially the kids are asleep, though my little girl might still wake up in the middle of the night.

I cannot do it My boss disturbs me even she sees that I have many paper work needed to be finished soon. Of course she is my boss and I cannot complain or else I might get fired When I am at home and my family sees that I am not chatting with them much, it is a sign that I do not want to be disturbed. They just disturbed me when it is eating time.

I think if you are staying at home with your family, they'd know you are working hard and not to disturb you. But since I have young children, and my parents are not staying with me but only visit me once in a while, so it's hard to say NO to them. I understand sometimes even when we are in office, we still get disturbed a lot, by boss or colleagues. That's why I used to prefer to work at home sometimes, as I could be more focus on my work.

It's hard for me to do so actually, as I have two young children at home, and my main job is actually to take care of them. I hope I'll have a quiet weekend, so I can focus in my work.

I can't, as I never know when my mother will need me for something. When Mom goes out with a friend though or something I can just do things without anyone needing me. :)

I understand that. When I was staying with my mom, I'd attend to her as much as possible whenever she needed me too. That's why it's quite hard for me to really work on my own if she visits me now.

Yes, I understand that. I'd like to complete my tasks or responsibilities ASAP as well, especially when you know someone is waiting for it. In your case, your students, and mine, my client.
