Being a Lotto Winner - can it change lives?

I dont buy any Lotto tickets as I dont believe in the odds to win, also I am probably afraid of what might happen to me in the even I win an amount that my brain cannot comprehend. Last week one of our bowling ladies won R17 000 which would be equivalent to $1500 in a weekly draw, she is such a lovely person - about 73 years old, married twice, widowed twice and now lives with her children. Her grandson is in need of a major operation which they cannot afford . . . that is until now! The money she has won is going toward his surgery and will definitely change his life while she has the pleasure in doing so. So let me pose the question - if you gambled, or bought Lotto tickets, What would you do if you won any amount, and how would you change a life if you could? I would travel, but first get a computerized prosthetic leg for my bowling partner, so that he could walk and play bowls with me again. His wheelchair wheels or bowling have been ordered and should be here soon, I cannot wait for him to try them out. Thats what I would do~!

Apart from taking a few extra holidays, the money would be of little use to me these days.

@Inlemay I would end up spending more time at sea than on land on such a cruise.

I have only played a few times with coworkers, and I never won anything. I do not usually buy any lottery ticket. I would find the use for a small amount, but I don't know what I would do with 1 or 2 million. I would probably give a large part of it to various charity/NGO.

sounds fair enough - so you say the age of the winner would depend on the spending?

@Inlemay I would say not age but needs. Some people are always needing/wanting more money, when other are satisfied with what they have. A little more would be good, but it would disturb me to win too much.

@topffer well would you believe it - I bought a lotto ticket today as National Lottery had a roll over of 23 million rand, so I spent 0,50$ to see if i have any such luck - who knows

It all depends on the amount won and the age of the winner.

I buy a ticket now and then, I am amused by the scratch games, and I play Publishers clearing house online (but spend nothing), if I won... the things I would do! 1. Pay off the house and the truck. 2. sell the car and replace it with something new and in better shape (but not a super expensive car, just something 15kish). Then I would fix the roof, the back porch. Tear out all the fence that is falling down and have it replaced. Then I would have all the carpet ripped out and the flooring fixed. Then. We would sell the house and move into a rental we can afford, or be able to move to a place he can get a job!

sounds like you have a plan, now you just need to buy a few tickets and play a bit of 'chance' with life and maybe some good fortune will come your way. Ahh me just saying things, I wish you luck and prosperity regardless of a ticket in the Magic Hat of Chance.

I'd put it in the bank. I've heard more negative stories than positive ones.

Absolutely - some that have gone from Ruin to Riches and back to ruin again - in short spaces.

I have given it a lot of thought actually but I am sure this will never happen to me. I would pay my bills, set my kids up and help the rest of family and friends. A lot of causes I would like to help, children's hunger, homelessness, etc. Of course, I would like to be comfortable as well but I really don't see myself spending lavishly.

When we are in West Virginia my husband always buys a lotto ticket. We don't have the lottery in Mississippi. I would pay our bills, travel and help others out.

I don't play the lottery so my chances of winning are zero! But, if I was to win I'd make sure my adult children and grandchildren had nice nest eggs for their futures, I'd also like to pay it forward to help someone who really needed it

I would be tickled spitless @Inlemay . I'd pay off the house; any and all bills; have some trees cleared; have a big barn built for my donkeys; actually buy some groceries; have my car worked on; donate money to the only local animal shelter; pay off my sisters house; AND give money to my daughter and granddaughter.

I would help my kids with sending their kids to college, but most definitely do some traveling. I play slot machines occasionally but never play the lotto!
