Mother's Day is just another day

Tomorrow is Mother's Day - and it is a day that is either cheerful and happy or a day that some prefer to ignore. I am on the ignore side of it. My mother died in 2005 at the age of 82. We were 800 miles apart and by the time we got 'home' to New Jersey she was gone. I didn't get to say good-bye, but I also did have to see her take her last breath. She was cremated, so I didn't see her at all. I can 'almost' pretend she is still alive since I didn't witness those things. I didn't have kids, my decision. I never had that motherly instinct or whatever you call that desire for motherhood. I made my choice at a young age and I have never regretted it, not once. So tomorrow when everyone is wishing each other a Happy Mother's Day will I feel left out? No I won't. My life is just how I wanted it to be. I have a loving husband, a great dog, a nice home and a comfortable life, I wouldn't ask for more. Photo is mine, my mother as a young girl.

not everyone wants to have kids, and while some people seem to think that's a crime of some sort, I say good for you! There is nothing worse out there than people who parent and just dont want too! If you dont, well then dont!

@Jessicalynnt They want one so bad, finally have one and rush back to work as soon as possible then have a second one and do the same thing - I don't 'get' it.

@AbbyGreenhill some people have kids, and do regret it. Or you can tell with how they treat their kids they never wanted them, and should have just...not.

The instead of wishing you a happy mothers day, i will wish you a lovely sunday.I too do not have children, it was not a choice i made, it just never happened.when i was younger, i was fine with it as i was busy with other things but as i got older and wanted children it never happened and now im more or less past that stage. Do i regret? im not sure but there is always what could have been? why not? but i have more accepted it.

We all have our little bumps in the road but if you are happy and reasonably healthy then that's good. I will wish you a lovely Sunday too!

My mom is gone, too. Also like you, I never had children (part my decision, part an ovarian tumor that ensured it). I remember my mom and wish "happy mothers' day" to my friends who do have children, but to me, the only thing it means is that I'd better get to my favorite restaurant early tomorrow because it's going to be packed!!

We know better than to go to a restaurant on any Sunday all year long. We have few to pick from and they are always jam packed on Sunday. We made the mistake of going once on a Sunday, ever again.

Your mother was beautiful and I am like you. I am not a mother by personal decision and I never regretted my choice.

@AbbyGreenhill It seems that most people finally gave up, but I have found someone here daring to say "you an always have one now". First, NO I cannot, but even more important I DO NOT WANT.

Thank you. I think people finally gave up asking me 'why didn't you have kids?"

Your mom was beautiful and I can see a resemblance between you and her. Mothers Day will be busy in my house as my mom is still here (at 94 yrs) so we will gather here since she doesn't get out. All my kids, their spouses and all 10 grandchildren will be here so it will be a fun packed day.

Yes you will have a busy day for sure. I look more like her now but in my younger/tinnier days I looked more like my father.

Your mother is beautiful. I will probably not get greetings from either of my kids, not that they are bad kids we just do not go big on holidays.

Thank you, I think she was a young teen in that photo. Holidays are sorta weird for us since we live so far from family

we also have pictures of my parents when they were young but they're in black and white. what color is her hair - blonde, brown or red?

Since I wasn't around then, I'd say her hair was a light brown or darker blond. that photo was probably taken around 1938 or so.

Your Mom was a beautiful woman , and I understand you, some women never wanted to become a Mother and that is ok with me. Not all people are alike with their choices.

Thanks. I make a good human mom to Ruby but I would have been a terrible mom to a kid.

@AbbyGreenhill Mom called just before I was to leave and said she had a back ache and didn't want to go anywhere. So we went and visited her.

Such a beautiful picture of your mom. I feel about Valentine's Day like you feel about Mother's Day. My mom passed about 12 years ago so that is sad but I do have a daughter that I spent Mother's Day with. I am divorced and have no significant other, so I'm not a big fan of Valentine's Day.
