We Went Out With a Bang

Yesterday was our family picnic/ goodbye to an era celebration.
Most of the family gathered at the old house, that our family has owned since 1964.
The wind blew. The sky leaked from time to time. The sun played peek-a-boo through the clouds.. All in all it was a success.
One of my brothers is into reenactment and he brought along his cannon.
After clearing it with the police and notifying the neighbours we had four resounding blasts of cannon fire to round out the afternoon.
Now for a final cleanup, and tomorrow the keys are handed to the new owner.

Thank you for helping to organize it. I think it was a great ending to an era. I now just need to find a perfect spot for the lilac bush, and hope it thrives.

I hope your lilac thrives. Then in Two and a half years when we move, maybe I'll be able to take a cutting.

@Morleyhunt - - Is the cannon in the picture the one owned by one of your brothers? BOOM!

@Morleyhunt The cannon is a work of art! What does your brother do?!

Yes that is the cannon my brother built. He brought it out, and in this picture it is parked at the back of my parents property before being fired.

It was not quite our normal gathering. The cannon fire added something unique.

The police needed assurance we were not aiming it at any structure. We had a 60 minute window in which we had authority to fire a number of blanks. We were also 500 ft away from the roadway and it was aimed into an orchard.

Must have been a bittersweet day saying good-bye to the old family home. Certainly is a blast (literally) having the cannon there

It was a bit bitter-sweet, but also a relief...the rushing around.....the stress of dealing with the details is finally behind us. Now we can close that chapter and move on to the next.

It was unique, as well as unexpected. Non of us had been informed about the cannon...but it was special.

Sad to have missed that. We'll have to get him to bring that cannon out here for moose hunting season.

I would really love my very own cannon. I can't imagine it being allowed here.
