Why Do We Do This??

Woman, have you ever wondered WHY we open our mouth when we put our mascara on??? I mean really, we all do it. Its like you get out that mascara and your mouth opens wide to put it on. Does it really open our eyes wider to get to the eye lashes easier? Haha, I have tried to be conscience of it when I put mine on and even when I tell myself not to open my mouth, it still opens. Its not like it changes anything on our eyes to get it on easier is it? You open your eyes wider and it seems the mouth goes with it. This was just my thought for the day, do you see how my life works. lol Have you ever wondered about this or is it just me?

Maybe the muscles between the eyes and the mouth connect in such a suspicious collaborative way? lol

In general if I go and touch my eye I open my mouth I think there's probably some old ancestral roots or something

@cintol As I'm answering you my eye itches and I keep opening my mouth. From what little research I've done is that they say blinking relaxes the mouth muscles or something like that.

Don't use mascara. I'm not sure why putting it on makes a person open their mouth.

I read the reason why we do that once, but I don't remember what it was.

I guess I should look it up, I never knew there was an actual reason for it. Thanks.

@cintol I wonder how many women are standing in front of the mirror every morning with their mouths open painting their eye lashes? LOL

@cindiowens Probably a lot if there were hidden camera's. I know I have seen a couple in cars when we are stopped at lights and their mouths are always open too. lol

I suppose I might do that, I don't wear it every day so will have to try to remember this discussion the next time that I apply it.

I have thought about this too - my children used to laugh at me about it. As you say, it makes not a bit of difference to how wide the eyes are, but we can't help but do it.

And, when you draw a circle, do you put your tongue out and it draws a circle round your mouth while you're drawing? Just askin'.....

hmm, just like we close our eyes when we sneeze, right? it is an involuntary reflex, in my opinion.
