As if this week has not been busy enough, tomorrow we are going down to San Diego to enjoy the world famous zoo there. It should be a fun experience. We used to go all the time and we were even members of the zoo for a few years. However, we haven't been there in years. I'll have to get some photos of the zoo and share them here. Do you have a favorite zoo or animal park in your area that you love to visit? (The coyote in this picture is NOT at the San Diego Zoo. I will get some photos of the actual animals there, soon.)

This is a very special zoo. It is one of the largest in the world and also has 140 conservation locations around the world where they work to preserve endangered species and often reintroduce animals into the wild that were born in the zoo's Safari Park here in Southern California.

@DeborahDiane That sounds like a great place, and I'm so glad that they work on conservation too.

Don't forget hats and sunscreen. The weather should be glorious, but the sun will be strong tomorrow. Have fun!

The nice thing about the San Diego Zoo is that 90 percent of it is shaded by the rain forest plants that they imported to duplicate a natural rain forest. It is a beautiful zoo and we had a great day there! Today we spent at the beach ... with plenty of hats and sunscreen. This has been an exhausting week with our kids and grandkids!

I just love going to zoos but only ones where the animals have plenty of room to move.

@JudyEv - It is really nice when the zoos attempt to breed animals, especially endangered species, and return them to the wild.

The San Diego zoo is one of the largest in the world. None of the animals are in small cages. Their habitats are spacious. The zoo also operates a Safari Park where animals are bred and returned to one of the 140 conservation spots that the zoo operates around the world. It is a very special zoo.

@DeborahDiane Sounds a great place. Several of our zoos have breeding areas outside of the main zoo too. The main zoo is usually in the middle of a city.

It has been so wonderful to be with our family. They leave tomorrow and, until then, I can only poke my head in here for half an hour or so a day ... if that much!

@DeborahDiane I get it and don't get to writing too much when they're around. My husband likes it though- as I'm away from the laptop where he says, "I hole up for hours" --ha!

i'd love to come'n visit that zoo myself :) there's a zoo here (2nd largest'n the state...) but i always leave their most saddened by the cagin' 'f the animals, their small quarters. the one'n albuquerque's much nicer, they've gone to great lengths to make the habitats fer each more natural fer each species. shame the powers that be here'll not fork o'er those funds.

@DeborahDiane shhh, don't tell nobody, but i'm a silent contributor to the san diego zoo's work actually. i admire all they do 'n the great efforts made to do jest that. shame that here'n my own state such aint true. 'tis most depressin' to see the animals here'n their small enclosures - barren dirt, weeds, concrete - that's purty much all they've got. i see such's cruelty myself.

@crazyhorseladycx - Wow! I'm impressed that you are a contributor to the San Diego Zoo's work. They really are working to improve life for animals around the world. It would depress me to see animals in small, barren enclosures, too.

The one in San Diego goes to great lengths to make the habitats nice for the animals, too. In addition, they operate a Safari Park just north of San Diego and they have been so successful at building their herds that they have been able to reintroduce animals to some of the 140 conservation parks they sponsor around the world.

I used to live in San Diego and visited it a few times before we moved away. I totally enjoyed it. The only zoo I've been to in Wisconsin is the Milwaukee Zoo. But haven't been there in many years, not since I was in my teens.

Ha Ha! We have lots of snakes in the San Diego Zoo, too! The only butterflies were a few wild ones that flit around occasionally.

I love zoo photos and really want to see them. I have been to San Diego and we went to Disnelyland and I loved it so much. I had an Aunt that lived there and cousins that lived in Aneheim. My favorite ride was the Small World one and I cannot to this day get the song out of my head.

I love the polar bear exhibit. You can see the bears on their fake icebergs, and under the water. They even provide theater style seating so you can sit and watch them. I could stay there all day.

I would LOVE to visit the San Diego Zoo! My camera and I would have a great time! You are lucky to have such a wonderful zoo nearby. It is a 2 hour drive either north or south for us to visit a zoo. We do have an animal rescue park about 30 minutes away, but most of these animals are in cages and that makes me a little sad...
