Poor Sarah got sick

Yesterday was a hectic day, as I had an appointment to get both of my dogs groomed.
I got my Pom groomed, but the shihtzu mix had to go potty, and when she did, blood came out.
That was devastating to me as well as the groomers, so tone of them picked up the blood with a syringe, and said that she couldn't be groomed, as she had to be looked at to find out what was wrong.
I got to the emergency vet hospital, so they could run tests to find out what was wrong.
After running all the tests that were needed, they found out that she has a urinary tract infection, and she has to take pills twice a day, every 12 hours, for 24 days.
She is eating although not that much, and she is sleeping a lot. She will be groomed on Wednesday, and she should feel much better by then.
I just hope she does, as this is all so upsetting, and I want here to be well. The picture shows that she doesn't feel well.
I am so praying that she will be back to her old self in a day or two.

I didn't now that dogs can get them, but from what I read on the internet, it is very common in dogs as well as humans. I had told my daughter about it, and she figured that was what she had even before I was told by the vet. I am also glad that I was able to get it taken care of, as she sure doesn't deserve it, as I want her well and happy.

Yea, me too. She seems to be a lot better thanshe did though, and that is a very good thing. She still has a little blood in her urine, instead of what she had. When she was first diagnosed, she only urnitate blood and nothing else, so she is getting better slowly. I am so glad that she is able to go now, as I am sure it had to be hurting her, although she has never cried or whimpered at any time.

@JudyEv It really surprised me that is for sure. I thought sure she would cry out in pain, but since she didn't, I wasn't sure what was going on. Now that I know what she had, it can be treated, and in due time she will be back to normal completely.

Poor thing. UTI's are awful in humans. I can only imagine how she must feel. Ugh!

@rosekiss ....She must have been in a lot of pain. I recall how bad they can be. Sounds like she is getting better.

@celticeagle The thing of it is, she never once cried while trying to urinate, and that surprised me, as I thought she would. I am gald she didn't though, as it would have upset me even more to hear that. I am certainly glad that she is feeling much better, and that is was only a uti.

She sure had been struggling to urinate, and all she did was urinate blookd. There is still a tinge of blood, but maybe only one drop or so, and the rest is urine, so she is doing better on that score anyway. I do believe the pills are doig their job and that is good too. I want her healthy and happy, and I will do anything I can to achieve that.

She should feel better soon in a few days. Let her rest as much as she wants. Sleep helps heal anything faster.

She has been sleeping a lot since she was diagnosed, and like you said that is a good thing. She will eat and drink, do her business, and then go back to sleep. I am letting her rest as much as possible as I know she will feel better soon.

@ShyBear88 I think so too, although, I just got back from walking the dogs, so that should help her feel better too. Her urinating is better, but still a little blood, but it is almost cleared up. That is one of the reasons I waited until tomorrow to get her groomed, as I knew she should be better by then, and the vet said that I shoudl wait a few days anyway.

@rosekiss I'm sure tomorrow she'll feel even better and might try to stay awake a bit longer. Normally by day three animals and humans seem to feel better.

I am also glad it wasn't anymore than a UTI, as that is enough. Yes, she is back to her old self again, and for that I am so glad. She is still on her meds, and will be for another week, and then she will get her urine checked to see how she is doing. She will also be getting her rabies shot, which will be due in June anyway, so I thought I would get it done at the same time that I am having her urine chekked.

@Jdaw1985 Yea me too. It upset me that she wasn't feeling well, and I was on pins and needles until I found out what she had. I am glad that it was only a UTI, but still, that had to be rough on her, not being able to go like she should. At least she doesn't strain to go now, and that is a very good thing. I didn't want to spend the mone I did at the vet, but at least I found out what it was, and got it treated.

She is much better nmow, than she was. She is back to her old self and she looks better since being groomed. Now, I am working on healing her yeast infection that she has had since I got her in 2012. I am spraying a treatment on her that has tea tree oil in it, which is a good healer for skin irritations amongs other things. She still scratches, as it will take time, but I know it will help her.

@just4him Yes, I am too, as it was scary when I realized what she had, as I know that it is hard on us, so I can only imagine how it was for her being a dog. She still has a few days of meds left, and that is good too, as i am getting tired of giving them to her, but I know I have to.

She is much better now, thank you. I am supposed to get anoither urinalysis, but I have decided to forego it, as I have given them enough, and they just keep overcharging me, and I just can't afford it anymore. I have another vet I am going to take her to, one that I had gone to before and I like them better. The reason I went to the one in petsmart is because it was more convenient, but more ewxpensive, so I have decided not to ever go back there again.

It could have been serious so getting a quick test done was vital. Dogs pick up quickly so hopefully you will soon send a photo of a happy dog.

She is feeling much better, than she was a few days ago, and I am so glad about that. It was touch and go for awhile, but since she has been on the meds, it has got better, as her urine is urine and not just blood, nor does it have blood in it. I am so glad too, as it is hard to deal with sick dogs.

Yea, I know. hopefully, once she takes all her meds, she should feel better, and be bleeding anymore. I haven't seen any lately, but then I didn't the last time either, until I took her in to get her urinalysis and she started bleeding again. I am hoping that isn't the case this time. I refuse to pay $200 for x rays.

She always does after getting groomed. I am so devastated that she has the UTI,as I hope that it wasn't anything that I did to cause her to get it. I just hope that once it goes away, that it never comes back ever again. She sure doesn't deserve what she got.

@Susan2015 She told me that it wasn't anything that I did, as it just happened. That is so reqassuring as well. The vet even called me this morning to find out how she is doing. That really makes me feel good to know that she cares enough to call and see how she is.

She has a urinary tract infection, but much better now. I have been treating her since I found out what she had, and there are a few dyas left to take them. She has to have them every 12 hours. She is back to her old self, and of that I am so glad too.

Thank ou. She is much better than she was, and she urintates without bleeding, so that is a good thing. I am so glad of that too, as it was hard to see her like that. I am definitely not going back to that vet ever again, that is for sure.

@DianneN You and me both. I was really worried there for awhile, as I was spending money to get her better, and it wasn't working. I just got tired of them charging me for every little things. I know they are trying to make a profit, but good grief, they really know how to over charge. I am not going back to them ever again. I am going back to my original vet as they don't charge me more than necessary.

She is much better now, and I hope to get her rabies shot either this week or next as she has to have it before I get her groomed again next month. It was an uphill batle to get her well, but I do believe it has happened, and I don't see any blood when she urintates so that is a good thing.

@birjudanak I don't like to get sick, so I know that they don't either. It really bothers me when either one of them act differently than they normally do. That is when I find otu that they are sick, and then I will do whatever I can to help the situation so that they would start feeling better.

Yea, me too. I know they don't last long, and with the pills I give her, it should be gone within a few days. She seems to be eating better, but she still doesn't eat very much, as she never has. She will be getting groomed on Wednesday, as she should be feeling much better by then, hopefully.

@polyxena She seems to be doing much better than she was, but she isn't a hundred percent yet, but she is getting there. I am glad that she is feeling better, as I was so worried abouyt her, as any animal owner should be. I want my animals happy and healthy.

I am glad I found out too, as it really bothered me, and I started crying when I saw it, as I didn't know what it was. When I texted my daughter about it, the first things she said is that she has a UTI, which I thought was strange for dogs, but I guess it is very commone in them like humans. I am so glad that she is geting better though, and I will do everything that I can to keep her healthy.

I hope not either. I love both of my dogs, and I will do anything that I can to keep them healthy. She is on meication, so it shouldn't take long. In the meantime, I really do feel sorry for her, and when my dogs get sick, I really baby them. Maybe I shouldn't but I just get upset when they get sick. She is balck to sleeping again, but she was up earlier eating and doing her business outside.

yea, me too, as she is getting groomed tomorrow, so she has to feel a lot better, or they won't groom her then either. She needs it so badly, but I just have to let nature take its course and everything will be fine with her.

She seems to be doing a little better, but it does take time for things to happen, and now that she is on the medication, I am hoping that the UTI goes away relatively quickly. There is still a little blood in her urine, but at least she does urinate now, where on Sunday, she only urinated out blood. I really do feel for her, as it has to be painful, yet, she doesn't whine or cry when she urintates, and I am happy about that.
