You don't have to be square to Square Dance

United States

I have to laugh at this, but in a kind and gentle way. When I was a kid my parents took square dance lessons, therefore, so did I at the local Y. I'll tell you, it's good exercise that's for sure. I guess it is fitting that I now live in a state that calls the Square Dance the official state dance! Some think it's old fashioned or 'square' to Square Dance, but don't tell that to the people of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. (Pronounced Mur-frees-boro). On July 7, 2016 over 1,000 people will attempt to set a Guinness World Record. Some ask why? I ask - why not? Photo: https://pixabay.com/en/dance-background-funny-stick-figure-674752/
Gloria Christy, President of Uncle Dave Macon Days, told WGNS that since the square dance is the official dance for Tennessee, it makes sense for the world record to belong to the state.

Square dancing was all the rage when I was a teenager, and it was the first kind of dancing that I tried. It was fun!

That sounds like a fun record to make. I did a little bit of square dancing many years ago.

My first husband was Polish so I did the 'real' Polish Polka with my father in law many times.

My parents had friends who square danced and belonged to some sort of club where they danced regularly. I only tried it once or twice when our church had a fundraiser and it was a square dancing night of fun. It is hard to do. Good luck to all those dancers in Murfreesboro and their world record attempt

Here some old ladies like to have the square dance. They regard it as a kind of exercise, too. However, not many people appreciate to it. As sometimes their music is louder and it is annoying. Most of all, they don't look very attractive. Try to imagine if they were the youngs who dance there, it may be nicer.
