Do you see what I see???

This is my balcony jungle. Do you see what I see? The ground squirrels ate another corn plant at Ground Squirrel Gardens, but they can't get to my balcony (they're ground squirrels after all). I have my first green beans of the Spring! I ate the largest one for breakfast this morning (I'm on a bit of a diet) and will eat more over the next few days. I am one proud papa.

Let me check. Yes, I'll be serving three green beans and dried snow pea leaves--a real delicacy!

@Lolaze I'm going to head to work for awhile. Perhaps I could cook up some ground squirrel stew to go with the green beans and snow pea leaves.

It's getting too warm for snow peas here. I'm letting those plants go now.

Of these hot days, it's kind of yummy to eat them right off of the plant.

@TheHorse when we had a garden, I ate tomatoes, bell peppers, carrots, sweet peas and corn right out of the garden. They are best uncooked and fresh.

if you eat one a day you will never have enough to make a nice pot of beans!

@TheHorse oh you are hopeless - put each morning's bean in a zippy bag until you have 10 - then have a bean meal

Heh heh. But at least I'll eat them before the squirrels do. I think the closest I'll even come to a pot of beans is tossing maybe three in with my Trader Joe's Shiitake Mushroom and Chicken.

I never had enough to be worth the water that the plants required when growing them in containers. I had lots of foliage, but almost no beans. Enjoy the feast.

Ok..just a doubt...ok...the other day Anna suggested some measures ..electronic thing to keep moles away... I maybe going more organic here...suppose...we could surround the plants with thorny stuff...would squirrels have access still?

they're beautiful. too bad it's the maggots and worms that messes with my moringa stalks that kept them from growing.

Your snow peas look great, but you should eat a little more than one, one is just enough for a squirrel.

@TheHorse Those ground squirrels are incredibly voracious. I wonder how you could get them away from your plants.

Those are actually green beans. The snow peas are dying off now--too hot for them. I hope to munch them before the tree squirrels get to them. I have some green bean plants starting to flower at Ground Squirrel Gardens, but I'm resigned to the fact that the ground squirrels will eat the plants before they give us beans.

I have three tomato plants--one on my balcony, one at Ground Squirrel Gardens, and one at the preschool in Berkeley. We'll see which ones survive.

And you should be proud, I have pots of herbs that are not going to give me one sprig. My deck it too shady, much as I love my shade, I would love to have a few things growing such as lettuce, and herbs.
