Today is National Donut Day and there are some donut hawkers giving away a free one to anyone who want to celebrate with a ring of fried dough. Dunkin' Donuts, however, is doing it a little different. In order to get your free fried grease, you need to buy a drink.
Why do I make fun of donuts? Well, I worked at the Dunkin' Donuts Regional Office in New Jersey for 10 years. I even went to Dukin' Donuts University and made donuts. It takes a lot of grease to fry those donuts. In my ten years at DD I never ate one donut. In my adult life I can't remember eating donuts.
If you are a fan of free and of a donuts, then this is your day...go forth and enjoy. I'll not be celebrating this day!

I have eaten a few of DDs because I worked right across the parking lot from one and would get hungry. Should have taken my own lunch but rarely did. I like the old fashioned cake donuts with cinnamon and sugar on. I don't care for the big fat ones with all the frosting on them. Ugh!

The ones with the frosting are more fun to make LOL, but probably way too much sugar.

@AbbyGreenhill Yup, so t'would seem. I enjoyed a nice piece of haddock, chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce at lunchtime, with a segment of lemon to squeeze over the fish.

We have a Dunkin Donuts in walking distance. Wish it was a LaMar's but I'll take a not very fresh Dunkin if I'm forced to. LOL LaMar's is better.

@AbbyGreenhill I gave up fried food, it's not very good both for the health and the diet.

Well, then you need to purchase a Dunkin' Donuts franchise - then you have to go to DDU!

There was a time when I would indulge in the glazed donut from Dunkin Donuts. They were my favorite with crullers taking a close second. I stopped eating them because of the fat and calories.
I was offered one when a friend bought a dozen. The grease was terrible and the indigestion worse.

@AbbyGreenhill I worked at DD before they had a university. The owner of the store made all of the donuts. I do remember having to frost them and fill them. That was fun.

Exactly - the grease is a killer. When I went to DDU and made donuts (because we had to!) the grease smell was horrible.

i do not like donuts. I will never use my money to buy.
IF someone buys and gives me free, then I will eat.
I think that is one of the most unhealthy food.
It is high sugar and high fats, and after eating them, you will want to drink sweet drinks to wash them down.

That is neat you worked at DD! I love doughnuts. I ate one two days ago that I bought from the Ingles Bakery. We don't have a DD nearby, so I like to go to Ingles on occasion and buy one or more.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes, true, but once in a while I get a craving for the "maple glazed" donut. Very sweet.

good but a food that to me smells better than it tastes, and I always feel sick after eating, too much sugar

It could be the fat that makes you not feel well.

I like donuts but will not partake. I know they are among the worst things you can eat healthwise.
