Are Alligators Getting More Aggressive? Man Eating Alligators Spotted.

There have been two cases of alligators eating human bodies lately. One in Lakeland happened today. They don't know the identities or the cause of death. They are asking if alligators are getting more aggressive and looking to people as a food source. I hope not. There are alligators everywhere in Florida.
Police in Lakeland said the male body did not appear to be newly killed and had already been decomposing in the lake for more than a day.

Maybe it's just a statistical anomaly.

Maybe, but who knows. Animals have been acting weird lately. I read a report about a woman who is a prisoner in her own house because every time she goes outside, a deer attacks her.

This is scary, I remember that in Florida everyone told me not to be too scared because alligators do not eat men. It seems that they have changed their mind.

Apparently so. They killed the gator and found human body parts inside.

I hope they were not alive when the alligators started eating them.

@akalinus It would definitely be horrible to be eaten by an alligator.

There was an attack on a young boy on the news, yesterday (Tuesday, June 14) and they have found the body today. Very sad!

@akalinus Do you think there are more alligator attacks this year that in previous years?

Yes, it is devastating. It has been a horrible week in Orlando, just heartbreaking and tragic.

@1hopefulman Yes, and they seem to be getting bolder like the gator that snatched the boy at Disney yesterday. That was the first alligator attack that ever happened at Disney according to the news.

@akalinus .. I thought alligators always ate man, or anything they could get...and it is only recently that I learned that man also eats them. Funny, chicken would never eat a man..nor would lamb, or cow or pig..

There was a guy in our neighborhood selling gator meat from the back of a pickup truck. How fresh could that be? I heard gator tastes like pork but I have never eaten any.

When I lived on the Gulf Coast, someone once told me to run in a zig-zag, if I were to be chased by a gator, because they don't shift direction easily. Fortunately, I never had to test that piece of advice. (I probably would have just made myself dizzy and fell down.)

@puddleglum Only because they would be easier to carry than a side of beef.

Let's hope you never need to try it. Maybe carry meatballs when you visit a swamp so you can keep it busy til you get away. Zig-zag in a swamp would be hard. I would fall going in a straight line.

Yes, I think they are getting more aggressive and bigger too! Before long they're going to be walking right up to people's homes and biting them.

Now, there is a scary thought. They are getting bigger and more aggressive, that is a fact.

I think alligators have always eaten whatever food source is available, whether it's a small animal or a small human. I've read there are many reports of alligators eating people that never make the news. But I hope what I heard recently is wrong that there are now crocodiles in this country. You think gators are mean, they act like teddy bears compared to crocs. .

Yes, there is now a croc problem in Florida. It is not as bad as the gator problem but give them time to multiply and I am sure we will be hearing about croc attacks also.

The gator did not eat that poor child yesterday. I wonder if it pulled him into the water just to play with him or just because they wanted to kill him.

Goodness, that is pretty awful. Florida will be taking over from Australia in the 'creatures to be feared' stakes. :)

@akalinus If they stay within the flagged area they are much safer but of course some don't want to do that. One of the victims was a diver, the other a surfer.

No alligators in Switzerland? They probably could not climb mountains very well. They don't like cold, either. I think you will be safe.
