Powerpoint Advice

Looking at the possibility of getting occasional work and income from public speaking. I see a few places hiring speakers for one-off talks expect us to use our own computers, and projection screens for power point. Though I know how to make Powerpoint photos, what is needed to project them? Can they be projected straight from a laptop to a portable fold up screen or do I need a projector too? Guessing I need a projector and they look quite expensive as well as not having a clue which might be right for me. Advice welcome. Arthur Chappell

You need a projector, you cannot project them directly.

You would need a projector, unless you have access to a smart television and have the appropriate output ports on the laptop. It can be done via mini jack and s-video to triple phone, but is less, reliable.

@arthurchappell I was actually referring to the venue providing use of a television, but obviously a projector is the best option. Projectors used to be very expensive, but I have not looked at such items for a very long time.

@Asylum seen a few on Amazon for around £20-30 but it isn't clear if they are all suitable for powerpoint photos of the kind used in my articles here

cheers @Asylum - I don't have a miniphone and carrying a TV set on public transport wouldn't be practical - it'll have to be a projector for me by the looks of things

I see some on Amazon for under a 100, but when one doesnt have tons of extra funds, even that might be too much

Hopefully someone can help you. Vince says you need a digital projector of some sort but he doesn't know enough to be specific. The images can be put on a large-screen TV too I believe. Someone here will know.

From what I've seen you should be able to go straight from the laptop.

Some laptops can be hooked up to a TV, otherwise you're going to need a projector. I've been in the audience for a lot of Powerpoints. Please don't start off by telling everyone that it's a Powerpoint ever. It's bad form and might announce to everyone that it's nap time.

@koopharper not likely to be a business meeting format - more an illustrated history lesson

You would need a projector, they arent too expensive either just make sure the image resolution is good on it and not blurry
