Today, in the north hemisphere, it's the summer solstice, the longest day of 2016. This year, we have a special extra event tonight, we have the full moon, the Strawberry moon. The last time the full moon happened on the day of summer solstice was in the year 1948, and the next one will be in 70 years. Do not expect to see a pink moon, the name was given by the Native American, because it marks the beginning of the strawberry season. There are special events at your place celebrate the summer solstice? Sorry for those who live in the southern hemisphere, for you tomorrow is the winter solstice. Image by Pixabay

This is our shortest day here. This is when I wish I was rich and I could go to the other side of the world for 6 months.

It would be wonderful to have two houses, one on each different hemisphere. We would be able to enjoy perpetual summer.

I was not around for the last one because I was born in 1948, so if I miss tonight’s I will just have to wait another 70 years. Oh well, I am a patient man.

We have to wait almost until 10 pm to have the night, but I would like to take a picture of the moon tonight. The strawberry moon name is true, I have not invented it.

@LadyDuck I didn't say you invented it LOL! I finally did see an article on FB about it. My husband said last night the moon was extremely bright.

@Marcyaz I heard the cat of my neighbor meowing and I got up to look from the windows if he had a problem, as I was up I went to the balcony to have a look at the moon.

I was fortunate enough to get a nice view of the strawberry moon. It was so pretty to look at. It is nice when we can slow down and enjoy nature and all of its wonders.

This reminds me that I haven't even tried to look at the full moon this year, maybe I'll wait until my eye has finally completely healed.

I saw the news about this summer solstice this morning . And the Philippines is included , i suppose your country too. But i am glad it's a bit gloomy and windy over here . I will again see the moon tonight as i ride the "padyak" going to the subdivision where we live . Last night i gazed on it while i ride the padyak . So , relaxing and so romantic to watch , the moon .

Of course it's summer solstice in Switzerland, only in all the lands south of the Equator it is the beginning of Winter. All those to the north are in the northern hemisphere and summer starts for all of us.

Well, no it's not the first full moon in many years, because we have a full moon every 28 days. It's the first fool moon during the summer solstice in 70 years. I hope that this is what the other member said.
