The Internet fooled a bunch of people again

Due to a bunch of memes and ill-informed posts on facebook, once again people fell for the 'pink moon' story associated with the 'Strawberry Moon'.
A 'Strawberry Moon' denotes the time of the season...in this case, it is the time of the season when strawberries are ripening.
It has nothing at all to do with the moon turning pink...but, as happens every year, I saw lots of references as to how the full moon would be pink last night.
Just as a 'blue moon' doesn't mean the moon is blue, a strawberry moon doesn't mean the moon is pink...or orange...or green...or made of cheese.
But thanks to The Wonders Of The Interwebs™, many people sought (in vain) for a pink moon last night.
People can be so peoplish sometimes...
(Today's musical interlude via The Steve Miller Band - Fly Like An Eagle)

I did see the multiple FB posts but I didn't research it or read them because I knew I wouldn't bother going out to look at it even if it did turn pink. Facebook is the anti-wikipedia. It is a treasure trove of things that have no basis in fact whatsoever.

I drove my sister home last night and it was sunset when I was driving back. I saw the sun setting, the moon rising, the tractors harvesting and it was all good.

I swear, if everything I read there was true, I'd have to find another planet to live on lol

I don't care if they said the cow was going to jump over the moon last night . . . it was super hot last night and I wasn't going to stay up to watch the moon change colors or become a fruit. I stayed up the time we had that blood moon . . . it was cool and all, but I sure paid for it the next day for not sleeping.

@vandana7 I didnt even know that there is a "strawberry moon"
... i only know there is a "blue moon"
Thanks a lot to @JolietJake for educating me. Strawberry is my favorite fruit and i would have looked up to the skies with open mouth hoping for strawberries to fall

It's like the silly thing I see occasionally saying Mars is going to look larger than the moon on a particular date...people see it on the 'net and automatically assume it to be true

The rind may be made of rock and dust (people will roll their cheeses in all manner of outlandish stuff - ash, nettles, cow dung, for example - but for all you and I know, the moon is actually made of cheese. Leastways, nobody has drilled far enough into it yet to prove me wrong!

And researching is so easy, you'd think people would spend an extra 30 seconds checking things

I knew this, but had to admit a blue or pink moon could indeed be pretty if that was a real thing

@JolietJake I know, I just have to stay away from certain discussions. Even in real life.

I've not seen a pink moon but I caught a pink sun on camera. I could have posted it here now but I still have to search for it from my photo file and I'm hurrying off to a choir practice.

@JolietJake I am glad I do not notice much of what goes on in Face Book. Both your post and the responses to that are interesting--''Peoplish'', ''anti-wikipedia''.I have never listened to Steve Miller Band.Liked the song. Thanks for that.

I've found if I zoom the camera when I photograph the moon, I get an orange or pinkish hue lots of times...
