The Internet fooled a bunch of people again

Due to a bunch of memes and ill-informed posts on facebook, once again people fell for the 'pink moon' story associated with the 'Strawberry Moon'. A 'Strawberry Moon' denotes the time of the season...in this case, it is the time of the season when strawberries are ripening. It has nothing at all to do with the moon turning pink...but, as happens every year, I saw lots of references as to how the full moon would be pink last night. Just as a 'blue moon' doesn't mean the moon is blue, a strawberry moon doesn't mean the moon is pink...or orange...or green...or made of cheese. But thanks to The Wonders Of The Interwebs™, many people sought (in vain) for a pink moon last night. People can be so peoplish sometimes... (Today's musical interlude via The Steve Miller Band - Fly Like An Eagle)

I did see the multiple FB posts but I didn't research it or read them because I knew I wouldn't bother going out to look at it even if it did turn pink. Facebook is the anti-wikipedia. It is a treasure trove of things that have no basis in fact whatsoever.

I drove my sister home last night and it was sunset when I was driving back. I saw the sun setting, the moon rising, the tractors harvesting and it was all good.

I don't care if they said the cow was going to jump over the moon last night . . . it was super hot last night and I wasn't going to stay up to watch the moon change colors or become a fruit. I stayed up the time we had that blood moon . . . it was cool and all, but I sure paid for it the next day for not sleeping.

If the moon turned into a fruit, I'd probably risk the heat. That'd be a once in a lifetime event that I wouldn't want to miss!

I find it difficult to believe that anyone would think that a strawberry moon meant that the colour of the full moon would be a strawberry colour-silly readers!

It's like the silly thing I see occasionally saying Mars is going to look larger than the moon on a particular date...people see it on the 'net and automatically assume it to be true

I saw the moon last night. My room was full of bright light and when I looked out the small window on top, I saw the full moon shining its light on me. And, it was not pink.

So you certify it was not pink? Did you get your eyes checked for color blindness BEFORE the event?

@vandana7 This is a secret only for you @Vanny. The moon is really made of strawberry ice cream. That is why NASA wants to go there again.

The rind may be made of rock and dust (people will roll their cheeses in all manner of outlandish stuff - ash, nettles, cow dung, for example - but for all you and I know, the moon is actually made of cheese. Leastways, nobody has drilled far enough into it yet to prove me wrong!

Funny indeed some people can be so gullible . Sometimes , we have to prove it as true or not by researching .

@JolietJake Yes, that's right . And sometimes i am one of them , lazy to do researches unless it's about something that ails me .

I've not seen a pink moon but I caught a pink sun on camera. I could have posted it here now but I still have to search for it from my photo file and I'm hurrying off to a choir practice.

People don't 'verify' their facts before passing it on. Sad fact. I saw a pink moon last night, but that's because I forgot to take off my rose colored glasses. It was pretty.

I've found if I zoom the camera when I photograph the moon, I get an orange or pinkish hue lots of times...
