Why I love chickens!

Everybody needs to be loved. One of the things I love about chickens is that kids find them cute, and that some of them (the chickens, I mean) will let you pick them up.
The secret to generating people-friendly chickens is to handle them a lot (gently) when they're young. Does my kid client look happy, or what? "This one loves me!" he exclaimed proudly.
Chickens crack me up because they look so serious as they go about their chicken business. They're also fascinated by my Gatorade bottle, and will all but climb over me to peck at it.
Chickens chickens chickens. I love chickens, even when I'm not eating them. Have you had a chance to interact with chickens?

We love chickens. Used to breed and maintain our own layer flock. The breed does make a difference on how well they interact with people. We really liked the Barred Plymouth Rock. Even the roosters were gentle with the kids. They still took great care of the hens too. If we can create predator proof housing for them we will get a flock here.

@TheHorse One of our first roosters got named Johnnie Johnson. He was a gentleman with the hens, fearless with the other roosters and any other potential danger to the flock and the kids could pick him up and pet him. His blood line was closely guarded the whole time we kept chickens.

When I was younger, I played with chickens. Chasing around the yard.

@rachz_kisses I tend to just sit among them and see what they do.

@TheHorse Some. I even fed them. Other chicken doesn't want to be picked up so we have this chasing for a moment. But I let them be after that.

My grandmother had one that was socialized. I can see what you mean about chickens and kids.

No, can't say that I have. Didn't know you could even get close enough to pick them up.

I haven't had much interaction with them since I was in first grade. When I was in first grade, the teacher got some eggs and we hatched them. I picked one as my favorite, we all did actually. I guess at the end of the year, she found some place for the chicks to go so that she could hatch a new batch the next year.

I like chicks, but not when they grow up. My grandfather used to have chickens in the back yard. We just to go to chicken shows.
