Happy Fourth of July everyone in the USA. It's been a good day so far today. I've managed to get a lot done on myLot for a change, though for the moment it seems to be back to its old habits with timeouts and slow to almost stopped pages. I did manage to get quite a bit done though, so it really was a win situation for me.
So today is July 4 and if today happens to be your birthday, let's see what events in history took place on your special day.
1712 - 12 slaves were executed for starting an uprising in New York that killed nine white people.
1776 - Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson was approved and signed by John Hancock - president of the Continental Congress and Charles Thomson - Congress secretary. New York abstained from signing the Declaration of Independence.
1817 - Construction began on the Erie Canal joining Lake Erie and the Hudson River
1826 - Two founding fathers and presidents of the United States - Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died.
1831 - James Monroe, fifth president of the United States, died.
1862 - Charles Dodgson first told the story of Alice's Adventures down the Rabbit Hole on a picnic along the Thames
1881 - Billy the Kid killed in New Mexico
1894 - Judge Stanford B. Dole declared Hawaii a republic
1895 - America the Beautiful is published
1901 - William H. Taft becomes governor of the Philippines
1946 - The US grants the Philippines their independence
1960 - 50 star flag makes debut in Philadelphia
1976 - An Israeli raid at Entebbe airport in Uganda rescues 105 hostages
These are the highlights for today. Thanks for reading.
