1099 - Jerusalem fell to the Crusaders
1410 - Poles and Lithuanians defeat Teutonic knights in Tannenburg, Prussia
1685 - Duke of Monmouth executed in Tower Hill in England
1789 - Electors of Paris set up a Commune enabling people to live without the authority of government
1799 - Rosetta Stone found by French Captain Pierre Francois Bouchard during Napoleon's Egyptian campaign
1813 - Napoleon Bonaparte's representatives meet with allies in Prague to discuss peace terms
1834 - Lord Napier of England arrived in China as first chief superintendent of trade
1869 - Margarine patented in France
1870 - Georgia was last Confederate state to be re-admitted to the Union
1903 - Ford Motor Company takes first order
1942 - First supply flight from India to China flown over the 'Hump' is flown
1955 - 18 Nobel laureates sign Mainau Declaration against nuclear weapons
1960 - President John F. Kennedy accepted Democratic nomination for president
1965 - Mariner IV studies Martian surface
1971 - President Richard M. Nixon announced trip to China
1975 - Russian Soyuz and US Apollo spacecraft launched for first International space mission
2010 - BP capped leaking oil well after 86 days in the Gulf of Mexico

@ridingbet I find history exciting and am trying to do these more often, but I get side-tracked so they aren't getting posted as often as I wanted to.

I must look through more of these posts...Mrs Valentine. :) If you could mention the date along with the title henceforth...more people would be looking up for their own birthdays and those of their loved ones...just a suggestion...not necessary that you implement that. :)
