With all the animal shelters filled to capacity across the USA, it's great to hear about a program called Clear The Shelters. For the 3rd year in a row 70 shelters in north Texas will be participating on Saturday, July 23 between 10 am and 5 pm.
Last year 2,900 pets were adopted. The adoption fee is waived and in a lot of instances micro-chipping is free as well. Let's hope this years event will surpass the numbers from last year. If you live in the area, please consider adopting a fur-ever friend.

I hope the campaign works. Please folks, stop breeding more animals. I wonder when all of us adoptees will have no more room for all the sad waifs. I now have three cats and two dogs. If we move in the next 5 years we will have to consider how many animals we shelter cause some towns limit the amount of fur persons that can be in each house. Right now we are in a rural setting where anything goes.

I've had some kinda bug get into my eye and boy did it swell but I didn't see a doc and now it's back to normal @sallypup
Not tryin to be rude, but I keep my kitties indoors just so they don't get hurt .... my pup seems to have better sense but she's in here with us as well most of the time.

@rebelann I just have to figure if I have the money needed for animal emergencies when I take in an animal. The other day our Beau Teak Siamese came in with a shut eye. Its about 55 dollars for a Vet visit and that's just walking in the door. I observed him and just when I was thinking about calling the Vet he teared up and washed out whatever was bugging his poor eye. He's better now.

@nanette64 It is also mine, there are so many immature people around and those poor animals have already suffered enough.

@LadyDuck They might have the best intentions but just throwing a bowl of food and water down doesn't cut it.

there's some rescue places 'round here that put'n adoption clinics, but not our shelter ('tis a 3 day'n kill shelter sadly). i hope that folks who're lookin' fer a fere'er furbaby do attend'n give these critters a chance't a better life. some folks though seem to believe that since such's free, 'r nearly free, that the commitment aint really gotta be there. i wonder what the return rate's fer those who're adopted via such?

I wonder that too @crazyhorseladycx . It's one thing to have good intentions, it's quite another to follow through.

I just wish more people would consider adopting an older animal @DianneN . Puppies and kittens are cute but so many times the older ones never get adopted.

@nanette64 Many of my friends and relatives have adopted or rescued older animals. I wish more would, too.

I am so glad about that program and I hope all the animals get adopted and people see that they need to give a home to them and not buy an animal. It makes me very sad that people go out and buy animals when there are many animals out there on the street and in shelters that need good homes.

Oh exactly @Hannihar . People will spend a fortune on a Pure Breed and in the meantime, hundreds of shelter animals are euthanized. It's just not fair.

Nanette, so so true. When people tell me they bought an animal sometimes I ask why because there are so many out there that need homes. It makes me very sad that so many animals need homes that are in shelters or running around the streets and then they buy an animal.

@Hannihar And the really weird thing too is that Pure Breeds usually have a health issue in their breed and yet your run of the mill dog on the street doesn't.
