UFOs and PIGS

This is 3 of the 4 before pictures that I took of the mess in my craft/sewing room. In my first post of this series I wrote about putting the large nails in the wall around the room and inside each bag is a project that I've started that needs to be finished. This picture shows the wall that has the bags all the way across. Some nails on this wall have 2 bags on a nail! I think the organization of the projects in their own bags is a good one.....but why do I start so many things and never finish them?? Why can't I grab a bag and finish the project before moving on to the next bag?? Heck, why can't I seem to find the time and motivation to work on crafts or sewing at home instead of only really getting any work done on them away from home? Someone in my first post liked the acronym of UFO's to stand for unfinished projects. That reminded me of PIGS--projects in grocery sacks. As you can see, the majority of my projects are in re-usable grocery bags, so that one fits well too. Here is a list of my UFO's that I post in my blog when I do a WIP (Work in progress) blog post. It's really only a partial list as not everything is on the list! Rectangle quilt challenge wall hanging Hexagon quilt Emerald Island Fusique table runner Five and Dime quilt Brown half square triangle table runner 3 sets of doll blanket, pillows, bed and rug--plus more to sell Wall hanging for quilt guild yo-yo's that need to be made into projects black and white rail fence quilt Arkansas Crossroads scrap quilt T-shirt latchhook rug Rainbow colored locker hook rug Blue and Brown yo-yo table runner Charming Stars quilt Special crocheted prayer shawl Fall Squares table topper

I should have also included the very short list of what I've finished this year.

I don't know why it's so hard for me to just work on one thing until it's finished. I think I get bored with the same project.

It's always fun to start a new project but then the novelty wears off. I'm this way with books. I will come up with a great idea and before I'm finished... I have another great idea!!

I learn something new and that's all I work on, putting everything else to the side...until the novelty of the new wears off. There is a workshop next month on making a wall hanging out of ties. I gathered the ties, but now I'm debating. Do I want to take the workshop? For one thing it's $25 and I am already spending $65 this month for the quilt retreat.

I just realized a quilt I have started that is in boxes. I think I have already packed plenty to work on for the retreat though.

That's a lot of unfinished projects. I have a few unfinished projects myself with the books I've started writing that I need to finish.

@marsha32 I have over 50 titles and only 14 finished manuscripts of which three are published. I have plenty of unfinished projects to keep me busy for quite a while.

I want the instructions for the five and dime quilt. I think it would be adorable all done out of polka dot fabric. Some people call UFO's unfinished fabric objects. Either way, I have plenty and so do you.

that is an awful lot of unfinished projects. Maybe you can work on one at a time and get them all done.

I can't even finish the yo-yo table runner, which I doubt now she will buy since so many months have gone by of her waiting for it to be done. She's not even responding to my messages on my progress. I still have 50 yo-yo's to put on it. Experience taking it away from home to work on tells me that I can put on just 6 or 7 in an hour.

You should take one of your started projects and finish it. Don't think about any of the others until that one is finished. It is a start, and it will make you feel better about yourself!

@marsha32 - I keep thinking that about my stuff, too ... what will my children ever do with it?

I started the year with great intentions. Finish at least two UFOS before starting a new project. That worked well until spring. The I got carried away and started several at the same time.

I felt good when I came up with the idea of a bag for each project and to hang them up.
