Helpless

When do you feel the most helpless? Finances are often a big thing, as well as unavoidable health issues. When my dad was caring for my dementia stricken mother, although I could help, I never felt like it was enough. She died 55, but he was just 59 when she died. The stress thought those 8 1/2 years took its toll even though he kept a smile on his face while watching her slip away. I often feel helpless when I'm doing everything right for my health, but my body doesn't cooperate. I just remind myself it could be worse. I think of hope for the future and believe things will turn around.

I feel most helpless when someone near to me has mental health issues and I don't know what I can do to help.

@Marilynda1225 I'm with you. I am bipolar, type II, so I struggle with the depression side. I know my mother always wished should could do something for me.

@Marilynda1225 Our son is not bipolar but has issues with depression. It is heart-breaking sometimes.

I know how hard it was for you when your mother was dying - in that situation it's easy to think you're not doing anough, but I'm sure that your dad was grateful for your support.

I know its hard after we lose a parent, but don't be too hard on yourself, you mother raised a beautifully sensitive and caring daughter.

@AmbiePam But you are, you are probably a beautifully young reflection of the best of both your parents, and I used the word "probably" because I didn't know your mother nor do I know your father.

Feeling helpless to do something for someone in dire need is horrible. When my husband had his accident and I had to call 911, I went into shock. Nothing around me felt real for the longest time and he passed away before I could even understand what happened. And there was nothing I could do to help him, beyond calling 911 and hoping they could save his life. I'm sure everyone goes through this at some point, and it's the worst feeling ever.

I get to feeling helpless when things are not going right for others in my family. As for your health, you may be preventing some issues with the modifications you make and you may be on a course for a slow long term improvement.

I think I feel helpless when it comes to my own health as well as my brothers. I have a lot of health issues and so does my brother. It seems like it is always something wrong with one of us...lol.
