A Ghost In The Workplace?

As many of you know, I am a nurse, and my workplace happens to be a hospital.
Many people die in the hospital unfortunately, and there are no windows to open, as is customary, for the spirit, or soul, to escape. A dead one may lay in that room for hours, with windows bolted shut and the door closed, so that those passing by in the hallway will not see.
Now I have heard many tales of people hearing strange things, and seeing strange things, but I have always been somewhat of a skeptic when it comes to paranormal activities. I have always debunked (or tried to) their stories, and have never experienced anything myself. Until now.
I had went in to hook up my patient to his intravenous antibiotic infusion. I closed the door behind me as I entered, to give him his privacy. Of course, he decided this would be a good time to go to the bathroom, since he would be connected to the infusion for an hour, and I obliged.
While he was in the bathroom, I was getting his infusion all set up. My back was toward the door, and I heard someone come in. I thought maybe it was a visitor for the patient, or perhaps another nurse or doctor. I could feel their presence in the room, but no one spoke. I felt a sudden warmth, almost hot, on the back of my neck, like someone was breathing on it. I turned to see what was going on, and no one was there. The door was still closed.
The patient came out of the restroom and I hooked him up and assured him I would return in an hour to unhook him. I told him nothing of my experience, as this would be very unprofessional.
An hour passed, and I did as I had promised. I returned to the patient's room to find him pale white and looking as if he had seen a ghost. I asked him if he was okay, and he said, "Someone just sat in that chair on top of my coat. I saw the coat move, the chair sank down, and I could hear the vinyl of the chair rubbing." I said "Okay, where are they now?" He said, "I never saw a person. I felt them in here, and saw the chair. Then they got up and I didn't feel them anymore."
I explained to him that he had had medication earlier for pain. Morphine. Possibly it made him have a strange dream. He didn't buy it. "I wasn't asleep."
I still did not tell him what had happened to me earlier. It would not have been proper. I asked him if he wanted me to call a clergy person, and he declined, but I could see the obvious uneasiness in his eyes.
This is a true story, from personal experience. Any ideas? Any debunkers? Any rational explanation? Any similar experiences?

I think that it would be fun to have ghosts. Ones that aren't harmful that is. I can certainly understand that ghosts would probably not be a positive thing for a sick person to encounter. They are already dealing with things and shouldn't have to deal with ghosts.

@cindiowens .....Perhaps. Or someone that has been there for ages and couldn't go to the light for some reason. You've watched Ghost Whisperer haven't you? There was even an episode about this very thing. Ghosts in a hospital.

Possibly it was a loved one who had passed, visiting him.

i believe such to be real. perhaps the 'ghost' 'twas tryin' to bring peace to yer patient. perhaps was checkin' 'n ya. one ne'er knows. they come to me't times, some i know 'n some not. sometimes they speak. mostly 'tis jest that feelin' that'cher not 'lone, like someones watchin' from afar, yet'cha can feel their touch.

Yes, I have had that feeling before, but never as strong as this one. I could actually feel breath on the back of my neck.

Your post has given me goosebumps. I do not normally react to these things. I do not have any understanding of how they happen. I hold on to the scripture that says "It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgement." I also believe there is a lot we do not understand. I am pretty sure you would not be allowed to offer to pray for a patient, unless he asked, but me, I would have been praying, and blessing that space. The only time i have come upon the idea of opening a window or a wall for a spirit to pass is in a native American culture. I have not heard this anywhere else. Every school I have ever attended has said the theater had a ghost. I worked in a nursing home where they said there was a ghost, and named who it was. I never saw ghosts there.

I am a descendant of Native American Indians, so maybe that is where I get that belief from. As far as I know, my school theater did not have a "ghost" but that is a popular urban legend. My grandmother was a firm believer in visions and divine intervention. I am not so sure. I do believe something happened that day. I am not sure if it was paranormal, or coincidence. I will keep my senses aware for future renderings though. Might I ask what scripture you are referring to so that I can look it up?

That must of been quite an experience for you. Your patient kind of confirmed things. I worked at two different jobs and there was a ghost at both places. I had to experience a few uncomfortable nights at work as to whether the ghost story was true or not. Yes, there was a ghost.

@cindiowens I know a lot of people don't believe in ghosts and I didn't until I had those experiences.

My son owns a home built in the 1700s, one night as he and his wife were laying in bed they felt someone sit on the end of their bed, you guessed it no one there. On another day, they were babysitting for my grandson who was about 2 or 3 and when my daughter in law picked him up from his nap he told my daughter in law " Aunt Jen, do you know you have a ghost" evidently he had seen him while he was in that room.

Me either really. I guess I will just chalk it up to one of those unexplainable experiences, and be on the lookout for more.

It could be. My mother thinks a house she pained in was haunted. She says she could smell food cooking in the kitchen and her cellphone was always knocked off the counter. And paint wouldn't stay on the wall it would run in one room. My mother's co-worker had took a video in that same house and when it was played back, there was nothing there on the phone.

@cindiowens - Her name is Amy, and she likes jewelry. When we woke up, my girlfriend's jewelry had been moved around and the alarm clock was face down. It was cool.
