Calling all tomato experts!

I planted some cherry tomato plants in little Dixie cups earlier in the Summer. This is for my "balcony garden," where there are no ground squirrels. The other day, I transplanted my best tomato plant into a larger planter. I used good Miracle Gro soil, and have been watering them regularly. Do you think I'll get tomatoes later in the Summer? I'm not a tomato expert.

I'm hoping! I munched a few tomatoes at Kaiser and didn't get arrested. I feel I'm "entitled" out there, since they removed my beautiful snow pea plants to plant their tomatoes.

Yes, as long as you don't forget to water them, pony! How hot is it at your house? If it is over 90 degrees, then you may have problems growing tomatoes until it starts to cool back off again. (We are having that problem. It is too hot here for our vines to set any more tomatoes.)

@TheHorse We are actually having a very rare cool day today, but it is supposed to be back in the 90's again tomorrow. It is also storming here today, too.

@DaddyEvil We haven't had any rain here in weeks. I'm going to cycle while it's nice and cool and maybe visit the pool later.

Oh yeah, you'll be giving them away. Or wishing the squirrels would help diminish the harvest. I'm fairly sure of it.

I'll gobble them up with blue cheese dressing before the evil beasties can get to them.

@TheHorse If they thrive, you'll be begging people (and animals) to take them off your hands. I guarantee it. On the other hand you might be like my ex-mother-in-law and have to stop because the acid from the tomatoes has brought on lesions in your mouth. Have fun! I planted two brandywine tomato plants this year and immediately gave away the first two tomatoes that ripened. Fresh tomatoes are delicious, and I love a tomato sandwich, but these puppies are prolific. One season of growing cherry tomatoes convinced me to stick with the big ones.

You should! As long as they re-root and you keep them watered with plenty of sun and enriched soil--enjoy!

I am not sure but my dad uses some organic soil. My boyfriend is digging up his soil in the backyard to plant some seed vegetables. I hope your tomatoes will grow.

@TheHorse We bought the easy plants like red russian kale, basil, and we also got 3 others but I do not recall what we got. They're the seeds from Home Depot packets, on the back it says they're in season to plant now. The weather was okay today. This evening was chilly and it hasn't been chilly for a while!

If your plants already show some small flowers, you should be able to pick up tomatoes in about 3 weeks.

@TheHorse If the flowers develop in the next 7 to 10 days, you still have chances to eat those tomatoes.

If the weather stays warm you might. If you have green ones before frost you can take them inside and they will ripen.
