We made it, but the ride wasn't much fun!

When I made reservations at a rental cottage in Maggie Valley, NC I had no clue that the NC department of transportation would begin constructions work on a section of I-40 that mean hours of delays - especially in afternoons and weekends! So our easy route from home to here was out of the question. The alternte route had twists and turns on the two lane road near Ocoee, TN, where the 1996 water water events were held at the '96 Olympics, began the journey. It only lasted about 15 minutes but they have been many deadly accidents on that stretch and it's been closed for weeks on ends due to rock slides. Today no accidents and it wasn't too bad. Then onto a nice 4-laner which turned back to two lanes of twists and turns in North Carolina...this part lasted about 45 minutes. Finally a nice highway and we thought we were home free - no such luck - another round of nail biting and "never agains" and of course our ears were clogged for quite a while! This was just the beginning - got to the rental and it had not been cleaned. So here we were tired and hungry and we couldn't even unload the car until the place was clean.
