She was not a good girl today. I woke up to find one of my sandals missing. As suspected, it was in the backyard. Chewed to shreds. sigh. She's been known to be a shoe-killer but I thought she was outgrowing the urge to murder laces and soles. It was only when one of the children were foolish enough to leave a shoe or two in the yard that the dog would demolish them. Now, apparently, she's taken to kidnapping shoes that are left unguarded in the living room. double sigh. It might not be such a big deal except that I'm one of those rare women that don't own a lot of shoes. I have my sandals. Scratch that. I had my sandals. And a pair of steel-toed boots. The latter of which earns me a good teasing by hubby every time I wear them. Now I'm going to have to go out and buy another pair of sandals. And I utterly despise shoe shopping! I'm going to have to take it out of the dog's allowance. That's all there is to it! So are you a shoe-breeder or do you only keep a pair or two of shoes in your closet? And how in the heck do you train a dog to STOP eating shoes? I think she's slaughtered 4 or 5 pairs now. Grrrrr!

Oh, she's almost a 1.5 years old. Yeah, my husband has more shoes AND clothes than me. I often laugh and tell him we don't fit the typical stereotype of a husband and wife!

I have no dogs, but plenty of shoes. My problem is that I keep my shoes for years, so now there are shoes everywhere.

@Genipher I also keep my shoes in their original boxes. I take a photo of the shoes, I print it and I stick on the box, so it's easy to find the pair that I want to wear. I have not counted my shoes, I think it's better that I do not count them.

I once saw into my sister-in-laws closet. She had boxes of shoes stacked high. I'd guess she had over 60 pairs of shoes. She said she couldn't resist a sale. It was one of my worst nightmares!

@LadyDuck Sounds like you and my sister-in-law might be kindred spirits in the shoe department! That's a good organizational system you have!

I love steel toed boots- or did when I could wear them. Your doggie is cute. What's his name? We're into the cyber age over here- our Siamese kitty has killed one computer and chewed another's power cord to shreds.

Wow. That's one destructive kitty. I know another mylotter here...poo, can't remember who!...said her rabbit chewed through some cords in their house. I only like to wear the boots in the winter. The rest of the year I'm barefoot. Unless I have to go out, and then I use the sandals. I had those sandals for 3 years...and I'd hoped they'd last another 3! Before that, I had a pair exactly the same style. I'm hoping I can find the same style again. I can be a bit set in my ways. Oh, here at mylot I call our dog Jay. It's not her real name, though. All the members of our household have "fake" names or are given initials to, "protect the identity of the innocent".

@Genipher Cute name. The kitty in my photo is Sonny James. I haven't figured out how to disguise him or his name.

No, she left the evidence out in the open for the whole world to see...and condemn her! So she not only was a "bad" girl, but a stupid girl as well!

That's life! If you are the proud momma of a shoe eater, that's just the way it is... The good news is it's getting into fall and all the sandals are on sale. Your photo made me LOL, who is that sweet pup standing on?

@Genipher I wear Birkenstocks and here in Canada we can't get them for less than $100. I should look across the border... The photo was perfect for your subject and very funny...

I found the picture at iwastesomuchtime.com Unfortunately, I think I confused many here by making them think the dog in THAT picture is mine. It's not. I just thought it was a funny picture that sort-of fit the "good dog/bad dog" flow... I hope you're right about the sandals being cheaper. The last pair I bought--the one that was destroyed--cost something like $30-40. But they lasted 3 years.

I hate shopping and have only the minimal amount of footwear. I just bought a few pairs of cheap sandals at acmoore for $2.50 though so I have more then ever before. I hate when I find a pair I love and thet get worn out or ruined. Last year I pumped gas and the pump malfunctioned and gas poured all over the sandals I loved :-(

She's almost a year and a half. It seems I recall that dogs can go through a "rebellion" period where they have to relearn--or have reinforced--what they've been taught. Maybe??

Oh my, that is too bad. Having a dog , one has to keep all things off the floor. Your story reminds me of one of my neighbors who got so mad at their dog because they left their game controller on the floor and their pet dog chewed the cord of the game controller up.

LOL! Well, if it looks like a chew toy and is left out where the dog can get to it, whose fault is that? (grinning at you!) I have more than three pairs of shoes and so does Pretty... but we don't have any pets that can reach our shoes, either! (I am pretty sure by the time one of the Guppies flopped from their side of my bedroom to the closet door, got the door opened and tried to flop inside, I wouldn't have to worry about my shoes!) I'm honestly not sure how many pairs of shoes I own. I can think of eight or nine pair off the top of my head, though.... LOL!

Your shoes are probably breeding behind your back... Yeah, the "funny" thing is I'm constantly at the kids to put their shoes away so the dog doesn't get them. And then what do I do? I leave them out for the dog to get!

My dogs didn't murder shoes, so I don't know what to tell you about how to make them stop. You might need to get them a pair that's exclusively theirs though. Though that might also aggravate the problem and make them think it's okay to murder shoes. Have you tried obedience classes? I love your picture.

No, we haven't had her in an obedience class. Though we should. She comes, stays, sits, shakes...most of the basics. Well, as long as a cat isn't distracting her...but I'd like to get her into some classes and, eventually, have the kids do some agility with her.

Sadly, I've tried. I don't know if she's burying them or giving them to the neighbor dog (which I've seen--they made a shallow hole between our fences and pass toys and whatnot to each other). I should get another bone, though. Something with some flavor on it, and see if it helps. This morning....eeeearly...I heard her outside, playing with some plastic object that was forgotten out there. I'm sure she ripped it to pieces. I haven't felt brave enough to look outside and deal with the mess, yet.

Well she sure makes up for it in the gorgeous-dog department! I also don't own a lot of shoes/sandals. But I have a cat who doesn't care about my shoes. Unless I left them on a high dresser. That's where she goes to throw things around to get me out of bed! lol

@CRK109 Her best doggie friend was playing in our pool and she was freaked out. She hates water. After that, she destroyed the pool. Protecting us from Water Monsters, I guess. It'd be funny to buy her shoe-shaped treats but...I don't want to encourage her!

I can relate to this because our dog, Happy, always running with one pair of our slipper or shoes. We tried to locate the other pair but we know the culprit is no other than our hyper active dog.
