Deep Fried Twinkies

Coming soon to a freezer case near you, maybe.
In the nature of hubby's job he is made aware of things that are being introduced in our market, because he is responsible sometimes for signs or for pictures to be sent to the company. In this case the company is Hostess.
The first I heard of deep fried Twinkies was in association with the State Fair. Every year new foods are deep fried and sold to gulping fans. They seem to start at the Texas State Fair.
Deep fried Twinkies do not sound too bad to me. Other things like deep fried Snickers bar sound questionable.
Hubby and I are thinking these will be pre fried and will be available in the freezer case to be heated up in the microwave at home. We shall see. Will you be interested in buying some to try?

I think it is a red neck thing. I do not deep fry myself and so far have not felt compelled to try any of these novelties. Now I like onion rings, and the occasional deep fried pickle slice but I have to be already indulging in something like a fast food burger. This gives me the idea though to pickle tiny okra pods and deep fry them when the weather turns cooler. Too hot to fry.

I would be afraid that would soak up to much grease.

They tell me that the trick to deep frying and not soaking up too much grease is to have the oil really hot so it crisps the outsides of things.

No, I am not into frying too much. I like a little nibble of a funnel cake. I like apple fritters especially fresh but in general we do not do fried foods at my house.

This just makes me want day old donuts. I love to warm them up in the microwave and eat a scoop of ice cream on them. Yes, it is also reheated grease.

I've often heard Twinkies mentioned on American comedy shows over the years (remember 'Phylis' back in the 70s?) but I had never seen them on sale in a UK store until yesterday (2 packs of 2 for £1 in a pound shop). Having now seen what they are, I couldn't imagine having them deep fried.

I bet a pound shop is much like our dollar stores. I have not had them in ages and have not tried them deep fried.

@GardenGerty Yes, we have pound stores, 99p stores and even 98p stores. There was one case of a 99p store opening next to a £1 store and putting it out of business. Here the deep fried Mars bar is famous.

I think for a trial it would be fun. I do not think I could make it a regular part of my diet. Have you eaten deep fried pickles? They have been around forever.

@GardenGerty The thought of deep fried pickles makes me feel queasy.

@JohnRoberts Really? I had never felt one way or another about them but my sister in law got some on one of her Sonic runs and shared. I like tangy foods.

@GardenGerty I like fried okra, but not deep fried. I do like onion rings, forgot about that!

@marsha32 says she does not like Twinkies either. I like fried fish, and old fashioned fried chicken. I like fried okra, fried pickles and onion rings as well.

Yes, they are fair food. I have heard of deep fried koolaid, too. I saw the discussion it was pretty neat. I am surprised with your sweet tooth that you do not care for Twinkies. I like snowball cupcakes best I think.

I am not a big fan of Twinkies. I am not sure if the recipe has changed or if the fact that I am a grown up and my taste buds have changed but Twinkies these days don't taste right to me. I would not try a deep fried Twinkie.
I have tried deep fried snickers and cheese cake. They were good but I would not make a habit of eating them on the regular.

I did not see that other discussion. It does not sound like something I would rush right out and buy.

@GardenGerty I can only imagine that the cream leaks when you heat them and if you do not heat enough the outside will be warm and the inside cream still "frozen".

You can be "quality control" for us. Someone said they think they changed the twinkie recipe, what do you think?

@GardenGerty Hostess was sold about a year ago and is now made by another bakery so I doubt if any of there cakes will taste like they use to..

The deep-fried Mars and the deep-fried pizza can be found in fish and chip takeaways in the UK. Mainly Scotland but I think they have crept their way over the border to England in some places.
And these are freshly deep-fried. Not some frozen rubbish!! So healthy too

I do not think I have heard of deep fried pizza. I know usually they are at the fairs here.

@GardenGerty Apparently they're very popular in Scotland. I think they go by the name of 'pizza crunch'.

A sweet treat now and then. I can understand them being part of a fair or festival. In a way it would be the same as something called fondue. I have seen sponge cake cut in little squares and fried in a fondue pot.

Unless it just hit the right spot, this sounds like a treat I could try a bite of and leave it alone.

Although I have been doing good on diet, I may have to indulge.

I am glad you are doing well. Knowing my luck, I would try them while on a diet and they would be so foreign cause of healthy eating that I would get sick.

They are only going to be sold in Walmart I heard on the news...I won't eat a regular one since they have a greasy taste to me and I don't eat any fried food. Nothing like a fried greasy twinkie wrapped in plastic sitting on a store shelf.

You probably know more about it than I do. i do not do the Little Debbie snack cakes, except the pumpkin cookie and the Nutter Butter bars or whatever they are called. To me the frosting on those is like paraffin. We seldom eat any fried food. French fries or fried okra or onion rings as a side with a meal.
