A Body at Rest Tends to Remain at Rest

You may recognize the title as being Newton's first law of motion. Most of us learned it in school."A body in motion tends to remain in motion (momentum); a body at rest tends to remain at rest (inertia)."
Newton observed that a still object would not move until some outside force acted upon it, for example the wind, gravity or a human hand.
An object once moving would not stop until a something stopped it, say a brick wall, or eventually friction.
It is true of inanimate objects, but you could use the same observation on human beings. People who do not move much tend to continue along that same way. The longer a person is a couch potato, the more likely that they will continue to be one.
Other people seem never to stop moving. The more they do, the more energy they seem to have.
One difference is that people do not necessarily have to be acted upon by an outside force to change the situation. With effort, by our own will we can overcome inertia and begin moving, or slow our momentum, and decide that it's time for a rest.
Today, I am a body at rest.

I've been lazy for several days now and I need to have a body in motion and not at rest.

I tend to be a high energy person but now that I've semi-retired, I'm learning to rest (a little).

There are exceptions to rule of course. Like for animate beings, internal forces of going to loo can also mobilize. That internal force is not there in inanimate objects. Secondly, force needed to move inanimate objects depends upon the mass of the object (which I always thought as weight of the object) and of course acceleration (and I was confused about it back then). As to animate beings nagging sound is often enough...

so very true. i know lots 'f folks who seem to've grown roots'n their couches. i admire those who push 'emselves, e'en when painful joints 'n such plague 'em. the more they move, the better they most oft feel.
glad yer gettin' a restful day. one needs those e'ery now 'n then.
