Not having a name at birth...

I found out that when I was born I was without a name for a bit. It was because my paternal grandmother wanted to call me by one name, my maternal grandmother wanted to call me by another name, neither of which my parents were fans of, and my parents couldn't come up with a name for me either that they agreed on. So, I remained nameless until a stranger suggested a name Elena that seemed to work for my parents and that became my official name though everyone called me Lena, which I actually like better. Learning this makes me wonder... can a person's life be affected in some way by being without a name after they are born?

Everyone eventually has a name, or at least something they "go by." I was born James, but when I was a kid I was called Jamie since my grandfather and father were both James who went by Jim. After about 8 I wanted to be called James, and in my teen years I went by Jim and have been Jim ever since. My parents had considered naming me Nathan. I can't even picture myself as Nathan, but if I had been named that, I'd probably go by Nate.

You don’t look like a Nate to me. James suits you well I think.

My daughter did not have a name for about five days after she was born. I had a name picked out for her but when I seen her that name just didn't suit her so I couldn't decide what I wanted to call her. I named her the day that I was leaving the hospital to go home. They told me that I had two months to name her if I wanted to wait but by that time I had come up with a name I liked and one that suited her. I really don't think that it affected her in any way.

Just got me thinking if I had been named right away if my life would have turned out any different or if I had turned out any different as a person.

They can actually be nameless until they have to register for school I believe. I like both the names Elena and Lena.

I had one name when I was born and when I was adopted I got another one. Personally I think at that age a name is absolutely irrelevant.
