The British summer at its best

I usually make a point of going out for at least one hour or so every day, so since I am in Southport for the weekend I planned to be out and about for most of the day. Of course the weather does not really care what my plans are and has an agenda of its own. Yesterday was quite a sunny day and gave the impression of a nice weekend ahead, but today it has changed its mind entirely. It is currently raining heavily, so my idea of a trip along the promenade has been aborted. I intend to wait another hour to see if it changes again, but will go out soon whether the rain stops or not. Somehow the weather always seems to know whether I am away for the weekend.

@sishy7 To be fair, the drivers are fully aware of the dangers but choose to go ahead.

@Asylum I feel for those riders at Silverstone... So many crashed at practice today... I hope the circuit would be a bit more dry on British MotoGP race day tomorrow...

We have a very hot day here, no rain at all. But in my husband's place it rains heavily.

I arrived back quite wet, but preferred that to not going. If it rains tomorrow I will do the same.

@hereandthere I just took a walk around the town for a couple of hours and called for a couple of cups of coffee. I avoided the promenade and seafront because they are far too open to the elements.

How odd, we were just talking about the merits of men getting go for walks in the rain verses women. Lucky men. You can and it's refreshing, but women must worry over their hair do's and makeup. A walk in the rain could change one's appearance dramatically.

This reminded me of a choral recitation that we recited while at school Whether the weather be fine, whether the weather be cold, whether the weather be hot. whether the weather be not, whatever the weather, I will weather the weather, whether I like it or not.

I haven't been to Southport or years - nice place - if your travels bring you to Preston let me know - you probably came through the station here on your route to Southport

Preston is more on the Blackpool route really, whereas I came via Wigan. Nevertheless you are not very far from Southport, so probably enjoying the same weather. I have rarely been to Preston and cannot remember much about it.

@Asylum it is quite a nice town with quite a rich, often dark history - it was the inspiration for Dickens's bleakest work, Hard Times

The problem with heading South is the distance. It would be a long journey by coach and expensive by train.

Do you have any tricks to make it cooperate with you? When I took kids to Europe during the summer, they noticed that whenever I carried my umbrella, it didn't rain. If I left it in the hotel, it rained. So when we left the hotel, they always checked to see if I had it with me. It worked too.

So you was Mary Poppins during your European trips. Of course I do not own an umbrella, so that would not work for me.

@Asylum Yes, except mine was pretty cute. I bought it in Innsbruck. Purple with small white dots, and a ruffle at the edge. Love the wooden handle.
