This adorable little critter, one of his cousin, brothers, or various other relatives just broke my bird feeder. Again! He took a flying jump and landed on top of it and down it came. Now, I know squirrels love the bird seed but honestly, we don't leave them out. We put food out there for them too. For some reason they want to keep jumping on my bird feeders. I really wish they would stop. I lose more nice feeders that way.

A nice little .22 rifle or a .410 shotgun would take care of your squirrel problems! lol

You can't change their nature so maybe a bird feeder strong enough to withstand the onslaught of squirrels would be your best bet.

I've seen the bird feeders that are squirrel proof @HazySue have you tried on of those?

Yeah, if it had a plastic grid then yeah @HazySue the one I bought has a metal grid around it but I never had to worry about squirrels, I bought it so the smaller birds could get food, we have a lot of grackles and mourning doves that'll keep the sparrows from getting seeds.

@rebelann that is along the same lines as making a better mousetrap. Or maybe not, I don't want to catch them just stop them from beating up my bird feeders.

@HazySue I'm the same. I feel sometimes like I'm in that Disney animated movie where all the animals come around to help her make a dress.

jest pack 'em 'p 'n send 'em my way. i'd love to be bothered by squirrels :) reckon ya could sneak a raccoon 'r 3, too? they're destructive, but i've always been quite fond 'f 'em. 'tis a challenge to critter proof those feeders, but such can be done.

He is just lovely. We don't have them here. We do have possums but they're not the same as your opossums either and they are nocturnal and not in the habit of breaking bird feeders.

I have a huge tree out my bedroom window..There is a family of three squirrels in it. I enjoy watching them chasing each other or just running and jumping from one limb to another. They are amazing critters. No feeders in our yard.

i wouldve either put spikes on top of the feed like they do for birds so they wont nest on ledges or a slingshot to the noggin of that lil cute basturd.

@Plethos I don't want to hurt the poor things, I just want them to not break my feeder. Actually my husband has be thinking about building a few out of wood.

@HazySue - wood will give them something to grip onto. thats why the metal roofed ones are recommended, they slip off. ive used paintballs with a slingshot to teach strays not to pi$$ in my yard, its sorta funny watching a dog walk on my side of the street, then when he gets close to my yard, he detours onto the street to walk around it, then when he passes the yard he gets back on the sidewalk.

We do too. Actually I'm not sure we have nice ones anymore, lol. The squirrels are search and destroyers. My dad had an elaborate setup on wires that my mother and I couldn't even reach. So we're back to just taking our chances with the squirrels.
