How MyLot helped me make $84.25 yesterday!

Last night's gig was actually a lot of fun. We were really tight for two sets, and then loosened up and had a good time for the third set, yapping with the audience, inviting some friends to come up and sing with us on a couple of songs, and ordering "one more beer" (I actually drank wine). I was surprised that the tips were so good. I think we charged the place a flat fee, and the good tips meant we each made $84 (plus drinks and good food). I'll attach a photo someone took from the "front row. I like the fact that it's kind of "gritty" compared to a promo photo. The drinks. The purse. The ketchup and mustard. Not quite in focus. It captures the moment.

The lemon rind over the rim of the glass bottom-left does it for me. And Otto Krekt wanted to change '-left' into '-cleft' up there, so glad I spotted that one...

@celticeagle Because we're involved in it, taking lots of things in at the same time?

Happy for you...but what I noticed is...you wore a different color shirt... You are still wearing the baseball cap...though DE remarked ...I think it suits you...though I guess DE would be more your fashion monitor understanding how it is in your parts of world. Do you never smile even in a group like that Pony?

@TheHorse ..I kinda felt that it was your signature ..lol. And honestly, it suits you....I guess, DE is right too...others wear different caps...but that makes it easier to identify you. :) Now, if you would wear a smile...that would be great. :)

@TheHorse Is the baseball cap maybe to hide your baldness?

I had to rush over there from work! Usually I'd put on jeans and a darker shirt. The baseball cap is my "signature."

We all played various instruments during the three sets. I play mostly mandolin and some guitar. I'm in orange in this photo.

Heh heh. At this point, it's almost self-satire. But maybe I'll catch a couple of newbies who aren't yet hip to my tricks.

A very evocative photo. Australia rarely does tipping so I think bands would get a flat fee mostly.

I wonder if the flat fee is any higher than what it is here. The joke among acoustic musicians is that "There's tens of dollars to be made making music!" Your son has probably heard that more than once, even if he's not in the US.

@TheHorse I know many times he has played for a pittance - and the circumstances have not always been good either - noisy, smoky bars etc. He was given a grant to do a PhD in jazz studies which gave him a basic wage for around 3 years. I don't how they would have managed without that - or how they'll manage once it cuts out in a few months. He and his wife both take church choirs in Dublin and are paid for that which would only happen in the biggest cities here. He stopped telling his colleagues about the PhD as so many of them are struggling to make a living.

@TheHorse I know the last guy we had booked to come would do three 3/4 hour sets for between $250 and $400. I don't know if that was just house concerts or anywhere. We offered him $400 as we know how hard musos have it but in the end we had to cancel due to lack of numbers. He was a solo performer.

As a band we do a lot of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, etc. As for me, I sing lead on Paradise, Pancho and Lefty, Take Me Back to Tulsa, and a few others.

@mpravomh Maybe we could be a big hit in India! Here's a rather "stuffy" version of one of our songs, record in the lead singer's den.
Durt Cheap sounding like a million bucks on this old country classic.
