This is one of the most-often misquoted Mark Twain quips. It often appears as: "Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated." He may have made similar quips live, but the one that is actually documented appears in a note he wrote to the English correspondent for the New York Journal, Frank Marshall White, in 1897. Twain had been lecturing in London, and rumors of his death had indeed been circulating. It is written as it appears in my title.
Anyway, I made it through yesterday (teaching at the preschool, seeing an afternoon kid client, and the teaching my evening Psychology class), and had a dentist appointment this morning before heading over to Ground Squirrel Gardens to print out several kid progress notes. After my kid client later this afternoon, I should be free to relax and see what's been happening on MyLot.
Any reports of my death are exaggerations. To learn more about the famous Twain (mis)quotation, visit the link I've provided. By the way, Twain lived until 1910.
In May 1897, the great American humorist, novelist and social critic Samuel Clemens — best known by his pen name, Mark Twain — ...

I had a friend that use to come and cut my pastures @TheHorse . One day I was looking through the obits in the paper and saw his picture and the details. I called his wife and come to find out it was a mistake. Seriously? We live in a town of 3,000 people. That was 4 years ago. Unfortunately he did really pass away this year.

@TheHorse I know, right? It's one thing to worry about WHEN you are going to die; it's quite another for a newspaper to PLAN it ahead of time.

He was clever enough, why'd he have to get misquoted. I always look up the quotes on Facebook memes, so many of them are made up out of whole cloth. Glad you have a little time to visit with us.

Most of the 'quotes' we Re presented with do not stand up to close scrutiny...'misquotes' would be a better term to use.

Don't you just love Mark Twain. I hate that schools have taken his books out of their libraries and I hate that some have been rewritten. People have become too sensitive. WE should realize that he wrote in a different time than we live in now.
