MyLot friends - Are Peppermint plants better than bug spray?

I love the taste and smell of peppermint. I just came across an article about how peppermint plants in the home can do away with spiders and mice. Mice I'm not worrying about, but we do have a lot of spiders. When we had the house (inside and out) sprayed for bugs about 7 weeks ago we did notice a big decline in spiders. Since we don't have as many as we used to I think I am going to try to find a peppermint plant (or a few) and put them in the rooms that have windows with good sunlight (which aren't many). Have you tried this? Does putting peppermint plants in the home really take care of spiders? Photo: pixabay.com/en/mint-herb-plant-leaf-fresh-herbal-83061/
Peppermint plants are a perfect way to keep away all of those pests you hate without using an harmful chemicals. Like mentioned previously, keeping a few potted peppermints around can keep rodents and other creatures, such as flies and ants, at bay. Pro-ti

I am not sure that this works. We have peppermints plants outside and I have noticed spider webs hanging on their branches. The leaves have been bitten by some bugs, I do not know which ones, I suspect locusts.

@TheHorse I have also heard that mosquitoes hate the smell of peppermint. I know that this is not true because when I pass near the area where peppermint is planted they always bite me. They hide exactly in the peppermint bush.

@TheHorse We don't have any of those critters - first place we've ever lived and had none...no big loss.

@AbbyGreenhill Interesting. I wish there were such a thing as a squirrel spray that actually works.

I had heard about mice, (not sure if that works or not), but not spiders, if you do plant some, will have to see what happens and share!

In my opinion ANYTHING is better than toxic chemical bug spray. I've never tried peppermint but it sounds like a good idea and I think I'll try it. I don't have a bug problem but occasionally I'll get a spider or two. I hope it works for you.

Out here in the country we have more bugs than if we lived in the city....I guess we just have to deal with them one way or another. If I find a peppermint plant I'll get one just to test it out.

I have not heard about this, but I just started to plant peppermint in my garden as I read that it's to be used to heal coughing. I can put them to decorate my dishes as well, and I actually like to eat them too. Hopefully by eating them, the unwanted pests will not come near me, especially mosquitoes. Have you tried this? Does it work for you?

From the comments, it seems peppermint may not be the answer. Nice if it worked though.
