Finding that Happy Place

A postcard I sent to someone

It all started with an unforeseen 'bum dial' phone call after 10pm which to me is just a very inappropriate time to call unless someone has been in an accident. So up I got at watched a little television as not to disturb my hubby. Wide awake the cat calling of the neighbourhood cats prowling the garden while my two cats lie at my feet with their ears peaked at the sound. It seems they have decided my garden is the chosen FIGHT ZONE and the howling cat noises are horrific. Its going to be a long evening and twice already I have tried to find my happy place in my mind while trying to sleep. My happy place . . . . normally my childhood days or my fondest travels. Do you have a happy place?

@inlemay I often retreat to mental happy places but it's rarely my childhood. I usually end up in an attic in Paris in winter, a bottle of Chablis chilling outside on the windowsill in the snow. Enzo's playing the baby grand and Yitzak's in the kitchen. We'll not be able to afford heat but we won't feel the cold.

@Inlemay sleep only works for me if it is total oblivion for the night

well that is a positive but is that the place you go to when you shut your eyes and try and sleep - mine would be a nightmare - ha ha ha - so much cleaning and ironing lying in wait

No, I do not seem to have a happy place. I am going to sound dumb, but what is a burn dial ?

Not burn - but bum - its when you sit on your phone and your bum does the dialing to a random contact - we had one of those - twice in 5 minutes!!

@Inlemay My daughter used to call that "butt calls". She often did that on her first phone when she'd get on her bike to come to school in the morning. I'd pick up my phone and hear "swish swish"-- that being her legs pedaling the bike.

I hope the cat in your picture is not one of those howling in your garden!

I guess not. I used to try and write stories in my head, these days I lay down, relax, shove cats out of my face and, pretty much I'm asleep.

Memories spent with my parents. Thinking about those calm me down and relaxes me.

My happy place would be the travels we've taken as a family.

I do. Sitting in my back yard looking up at my acacia tree and my olive tree, and the bird feeder. I really love the picture you posted.

I sometimes find it very difficult to find a happy place - probably my childhood days would work best too.

Yes, my happy place is the old farmhouse of my grandmother. The place where I spend some vacation times when I was a teenager. I hate late phone calls as much as I hate those of early morning. They always brought bad news in my life.

My happy place was my childhood home full of great memories. I usually returned to that time when I remember some pieces of an event or a thing.

Music. When I listen to music, the world is always a happy place.
