Hamburger with Vegetables Inside

Japan
October 8, 2016 1:26am CST
I am skipping all over the place today with subjects! I just ate the last of the batch of hamburgers that I made last Tuesday to take in my lunch (bento) and thought of this. I often get leafy green vegetables (mizuna, mitsuba, chingensai-- they are the cheap leafy vegetables in Japan) and chop up leaves and stems and mix some in my ground meat before I make the hamburgers. I don't put a lot in but it is a bit more vegetable nutrition without my having to think about it. By the way, I make my hamburgers small, about an inch and a half round, and then I can pack two or three in my lunch box. Or I can use them like meatballs! Do you have ways to encourage yourself to eat healthy meals?

Mostly we would do as you do and include extra vegetables in with meat. We also add lots of vegetables to casseroles and stir-fries - the more the better.

Oishisou (sounds delicious)! I've been wanting to make "meatballs" to freeze away, but never get around to doing it. And with gohan (rice) - it's perfect in a bento! I love to make spaghetti sauce from scratch for the kids because they will gobble it up. We put in the usual meat/sausage in tomato sauce but I put in a lot of vegetables with it . . . carrot, onion, celery, mushroom, zuchinni - and spinach if we have it. I just like to toss in extra vegetables with everything whenever I can!

I think I am really fortunate to have discovered I am very very gluten intolerant, so I can't eat fast foods any more. So I don't. I would have a big stomachache if I gave in to temptation.

I don't need encouragement as I usually eat healthy now that I am retired, my favorite health foods are salmon, sardines, eggs and vegetables of course.

@petatonicsca I have problem digesting raw vegetables, I can eat only a few, like tomatoes and carrots.

@LadyDuck That's interesting, because I can't eat cooked tomatoes. I understand the not being able to digest raw-- if I eat too much salad I think I have the same problem.

I prefer cooked vegetables in the winter, and even in the summer, but I eat raw vegetables in the summer too.

I had seen some veggie burgers in some cities of my country. Unfortunately, they are not available here in my city. But I do like munching veggie salads lately.

That is a good idea too! I don't like to carry salad in my lunch, though, because it gets all wilted and blah before noon.
