Does your mind go in surprising directions sometimes?

This morning, as I was sitting here sipping my first cup of coffee, I felt a rush of cold air over my feet. I said to myself, "The rain will start in ten minutes." This got me to wondering about what percentage of people notice such things. This, in turn, got me to thinking about hiking with my kid clients, and how we sometimes just sit in the hills, watching the turkey vultures and hawks soar, and discussing how the vegetation has changed since the last time we were there. Sometimes we pretend we are Indians (of the American variety) and find shelters for when it rains, consider what we'd eat at various times of the year, and discuss how the various Mt. Diablo tribes must have been sensitive to the land and the weather, as for them, it was a matter of survival. This got me to wondering whether there are Indian names for "cold that comes before the rain," since that is something that Indians would have noticed. I Googled around a bit and couldn't find such a word in Blackfoot or Navaho, but that doesn't mean such a word doesn't exist. I'll keep searching. I did learn that the Blackfoot word for "moon" contains their word for "sun," so it must translate to "night sun" or some such. At that point, I chuckled about how far my thoughts had drifted from my original observation that a cold rush of air had passed over my feet, and decided to write this post. Ten minutes had passed, and it started pouring, so I stepped onto my balcony and snapped this photo before I started writing. Can you tell when the rain will come? Do you find your thoughts going off on strange, and sometimes interesting, tangents?

One of the endearing, and frustrating, features of a myLot discussion thread is its tangentiality, I find.

@TheHorse Or, as I typed in error once, tangenital...

@pgntwo I could mistype that as transgenital and we could start a whole new subject.

Oh, I think I enjoy the tangents as much as the original subject, especially on my own boring ol' posts.

Oh, yes. I can sometimes tell when rain will come. My mind does tend to wonder, as you will see in my latest post. Sometimes I wonder if my dreams don't stick around a while and I ramble on in my head over them.

@TheHorse .......I usually am waking up at the very end of a dream and get it finished completely. And then I lose the memory of it.

LMAO! You know there are times when I nip out of myLot to find some little tidbit of information for someone and don't make it back for hours, right? Guess what happened to me, pony! LOL! Yep! I was following the logical sequence I needed to find the information someone ask for and took a wrong turn or got side-tracked by something I was skimming for the information I needed! SMH! You've lived through several of my innocent-at-the-time side-tracks on your own discussions! You KNOW how easy it is for that to happen! AND where one innocent-at-the-time comment can leave us... especially if @vandana7 or @pgntwo get involved in the mis-guided conversation! I think they both watch what I say and just wait on me to say something they can pervert for their own enjoyment! LOL! Not that I don't have a lot of fun when they do that, but... sigh!... once in a while, I lose track of the new train of thought, too, and never seem to get a straight answer from any of you when I need a question answered for myself...

I'd feel sorry for the genuinely innocent ones if the word "innocent" was used for you, pony, me, or pgntwo. Junior can be innocent, and so too mommaj...but us...come on..

@vandana7 Well, I did carefully say 'innocent-at-the-time', vanny! What did you think I meant by that phrase? LOL! I often cringe when I see @hora_fugit has read a discussion that has turned into a not-innocent discussion because of us playing there, too. (That's why you often see me apologize to him in those discussions! I think he gets a bit of a thrill out of it, but can't be sure as he refuses to answer questions about it.)

Perhaps a code word is needed - I am told this is common in other sorts of games and role play... Can you imagine how hard agreeing on that word is going to be?

'tis native americans - those folks get a bit testy if'n ya call 'em the other. i'm a purty good weather forecaster. which's kinda sad'n one hand, quite handy'n the other. i'm constantly 'goin' off', which can sometimes lead to'n hour 'r so bein' dedicated...'n then can't recall what the heck i t'was doin' 'fore wanderin' :)

My grandmother could tell you 1/2 hour before a storm would hit @TheHorse . Don't laugh but some people are like dogs in the sense that they 'feel' a change in air compression. When I sit on my back porch, that's when my mind flies all over the place.

Very interesting thoughts. I never can tell when it is going to rain, but there were some strange coincidences where I acted a certain way without me really knowing why, then turns out that something bad happened which could have affected me had I not changed my mind. I do not think I am that perceptive by any means, but whatever or whoever is guiding me, I will always be grateful for that.

@TheHorse Like when we have to attend a party in another town 90 miles away from us. We were looking forward to it but for some reason we can't just seem to go: we overslept, then our tire pressure was low, then we burned 2 fuses in the house and I think the last straw was when our dog starts acting sick. We finally decided to stay home and see what else could go wrong. Then turns out there is a 3-car accident in the very freeway that we are supposed to take going to the party. After that incident, our dog is suddenly ok and no more mishaps in the house. You're right, very intriguing indeed.

That sounds intriguing! What kind of situations were they? Twice, I've decided to wait to go into an intersection when the light turned green right before a texting driver ran a red light right in front of me. Both times I would have been t-boned.

Now THAT I'm not so sure I can do. Well, there's certain chill in the air down here that often means snow on Mt. Diablo if it's raining here. But it often doesn't stick. Mt. Diablo is only 3850 feet tall, and we're only 20 miles or so from the San Francisco Bay.

I enjoyed that trip through your brain. Ah yes, tangents all the time. Unfortunately my mind is usually trying to convince me that I need to be paranoid about something though. Yesterday at supper. *This menu is sticky. *I should go to the restroom to wash my hands. *If I go in the restroom, I risk getting contaminated by "bathroom germs" - might be worse than what's on the sticky menu. *I wonder if you can catch anything from public restrooms? I should look it up. * I will use the hand sanitizer instead. I wonder if it's as effective as washing? I should look that up too. *Maybe, if I use the sanitizer 3 times it will be effective? * 3 is a good number, I wonder how it got that superstition,.... Yeah, I'm Obsessive Compulsive. No, I mean I literally do have the diagnosis. Unfortunately.

not about preludes to rain but I have felt a sudden urgentcy that the sudden stillness with no windf no sdound of insercts or bird cries or people noieses meant in a fe minute would come the bllast sound, then the moving of our room shaking and rolling the new quake,Usually ten minutes to twenty at moist it will h'appen as the dogs, cats and birds all sense it coining and stop making any kinds of sounds., I have been right about 95 percent of the time too.

Where DID the butter knives go? And did the same thing happen with the other knives? And who in your household uses butter knives? And why? I use whatever knife is available. Are Brits more formal about which knife to use for butter? Are Indians as well, since they're influenced by Brits? Look what you've started.
