Happy Halloween everyone! How are you celebrating?

It's Halloween in the US, and I have absolutely no plans related to Halloween today. In fact, I'm sort of a Halloween Grinch now. The kids in my apartment complex are mostly Indian, and they only visit other Indian families, if they trick or treat at all, my (Indian) neighbor tells me. My (Croatian) neighbor buddy, now eight, said he's not even sure if he's trick or treating this year either.
Tonight, I give an exam in my 7-10 PM Psychology class, meaning that I'll have a few parents of young children grumpy with me that they can't take their kids trick or treating. I have no candy here, only petrochemicals in various shades of clear and brown.
I hope your Halloween plans are more joyous than mine.

I commented to Koalemos a few minutes ago to say that I have looked outside and nobody, absolutely nobody, is celebrating Halloween here. I have decorated our table and made a Halloween cake. I am going to post the photos tomorrow. It seems we are the only two in our village to know that today is Halloween.

Anything Charlie Brown makes me smile. I am, as you know, evil. I actually showed my 8-year-old buddy "how to make grown-ups mad" yesterday. Just say "Mwa mwa mwa" when they're trying to lecture him. I showed him a YouTube clip of Peppermint Patti falling asleep as the teacher droned on. I can't remember which Charlie Brown Special that's from. It's been too long!

Bah humbug!! Not that the kids are all grown, we don't do Halloween and we don't get any trick or treaters here in our village. So it's just another day!!

@STOUTjodee Nebraska! I used to live in Iowa. Very "all American." Why are there no trick or treaters there?

So far I've turned in a bunch of progress notes and my time sheet, got my exam for tonight copied and ready (they didn't have orange so I went with yellow), and graded the last of the papers I have to grade. My afternoon client cancelled, so I can do a little extra prep for tonight's lecture.

My next door neighbor (and his wife and many of his Hindu friends back home in India) is celebrating Diwali, which a Hindu celebration of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, etc. It is a festival of lights, where everyone lights candles, etc. I think I'll light a candle in celebration, even if I'm not technically "Hindu."

@Ghostdmo Here in the US, some Halloween decorations celebrate pumpkins and the harvest, as well as more ghoulish themes, but I'd assume that the Harvest is still celebrated more explicitly in Europe. Do they do Harvest festivals at the appropriate time in Brazil? Can you see the Southern Cross constellation there? I've always wanted to see that.

My neighbor friend was telling me about that. He has a BEAUTIFUL picture of his 6-month-old son (still in India with his wife) all decked out in what I think was Diwali clothing. I hope he'll let me share it here. His wife and son will be here soon.

@Ghostdmo @rajeshrockstar My neighbor told me that Diwali celebrates a battle between different forces. Can you summarize it? I said, So it ultimately comes down to good defeating evil, and my neighbor friend laughed and said, Ultimately. But of course it's much more complicated than that.

@Ghostdmo Yes, my comment was directed toward @rajeshrockstar. But I wanted to keep you "in the loop," as we're all a part of this conversation.

I love your photo! It's better than the one I took of my pumpkin puking! Yours had too much to drink...mine had too much candy to eat! haha

Oh, that's the grossest Halloween pumpkin I've ever seen...
But whoever carved it was very creative!
