So Much to Tell You

'So Much to Tell You' is the title of a young teenagers' book by John Marsden, a very popular Australian children's author. It seemed an apt title for my first post in about three weeks. We've been away. I hope everyone is well and happy. We flew to Adelaide from Perth, Western Australia, picked up our hired campervan and headed to a friend's place for two nights. Lyndal is Vince's god-daughter and has always kept in touch, bringing her three young children out to see us when they lived not far away. While there, the five of us all went to a toy factory and wildlife park. The park started off as a sanctuary for injured wildlife and it has remained so. The kids were fascinated with the wallabies and kangaroos which could be petted. We bought the children bags of feed for the animals but the kangaroos snatched the bag off the kids and caused a few tears from the small boy. Then the sheep head-butted the oldest girl and nearly caused more tears. Towards the end of our visit, the peacock decided to display his wonderful plumage and probably couldn't understand why he wasn't the centre of attention.

Welcome back Judy, we missed you. Poor kids, the animals were not in the mood to cooperate it seems.

@JudyEv I know, Willy the cat some days is adorable, other days he just want the food and left alone.

It is nice to be home - and to be online again. The animals just want the food. They're not worried about the pats and kind words. :)

Don't forget 'West is best'. Many don't bother to come to WA as it is such a long way but it's worth the trip (spoken by a parochial West Australian!) :)

@Jessicalynnt Something like that lol. I snatched the paper bag away before it could eat that too. One hungry kanga!

That's true. It happened so quickly - grabbing the bag - there wasn't time to do anything about it.

If it wasn't the peacock photo-bombing photos of the kids, it was the kids jumping in front of the peacock.

Adelaide is more laid-back like Perth. We have always liked Adelaide much better than Melbourne or Sydney.

Animals can be mean. Shame on those kangaroos and sheep. I'm glad you had a good day at the sanctuary. Beautiful picture.

Adults would just shrug and laugh it off but it was a major catastrophe for the little kids. :)

Oh I love the photo. It reminds me of a children's book all on its own. i have been to a drive through wildlife park where ostriches drooled all over your mirrors trying to get to the feed you had in cups in the car and camels were totally obnoxious. Funny, as long as no one is really hurt.

I can imagine camels being obnoxious. That's the trouble with feeding semi-wild animals. In the parks in the centre of Australia, there were numerous signs asking that people don't feed the dingoes.

I love peacocks, they are so beautiful. We had a man with several in his yard, I used to drive by just to see them strutting around.

Their tails are so long. They were selling the tail feathers for $4 each. If you found one in the yard you were expected to hand it in.

Later, at another place, an emu snatched a whole bag of food and caused another upset but with another child. I guess it happens pretty regularly.

Sounds like you have a lovey time. Love the picture. Mike had peacocks when we were first married. One day after work he went to feed them and someone had stolen them. Have a blessed day

My brother got pecked on the head by a cassowary at a zoo too many years ago. I hope the butt wasn't too hard so they could really hurt.

That's true. It's an occupational hazard when animals are free to roam around people in an area like this.

It's a shame the animals weren't better behaved and more grateful! I love seeing a peacock displaying its plumage.

I don't think I've ever seen a grateful animal yet - well, not too often anyway.
