Shopping Carts: Do you put them back?

United States
November 5, 2016 12:27am CST
We went grocery shopping and parked beside the 'cart return' stall. Tell me why people can't place the cart back into the stall. The stall wasn't even full! I understand if the cart return stall was far away, but common it was right there... Do you put shopping carts back? I admit, I have placed carts back 'not in the stall' sometimes but because the stall was super far away! I will make an effort to not put the carts right beside someones car though. Usually at the corner or somewhere by the bushes. Then again - I hardly get carts nowadays so I don't have to worry about pushing a cart.

Of course we put the shopping carts back because we have to introduce a coin to get one and we get our coin back when we put the cart back. The coin needed is 2 Swiss Francs, the same as $2, so it's better not to waste the money.

That is a very smart way. Then, they don't have to hire as many employees to keep track of the carts. I would definitely want my $2 back as well.

@infatuatedbby We have several carts stations in the parking areas where to leave the cart and get back our coins. Employees are too expensive here in Switzerland, it would cost a fortune to pay one to recover the carts.

Here we just need to put the shopping carts near the exit and the supermarket staff will put all of them together back to the entrance.

@infatuatedbby No, I just put my stuff into my cloth bag. It is nearby my home. And by the way, here most supermarkets can't take the shopping carts outside.

I do put them back! The time I go shopping, it's very rare that it's crowded . . . so I can actually find parking near one of the cart stalls. And even if I'm not near, I will do my best to take it to a stall . . . I know what it's like to have a runaway cart ram into my car and I wouldn't want to do that to anyone.

I like parking near by too! I never had a cart runaway and ram into my car. But I had the cart pusher ram the cart into my car and made scratches. He had a disability and he can't tell from white cars. I ran after him and was like 'what the heck'.. He just kept going. I ran into the notify the manager and he apologized. Told me to get an estimate to get the damages fixed.

@infatuatedbby Oh wow - I wonder if he would have left a note or something if you hadn't ran after him! In any case it's good he offered to pay for the damages. People are not cool like that around here .

Yeah, I usually put them back. Can't say I have the perfect track record there though, but I would say I have put them back like 9/10 times at least. Also, I am kind of like you, I don't hardly use shopping carts.. Usually use a lot of baskets, just go shop for small stuff :)

I generally always put a cart in a stall. If not at least place so they won't interfere with a parking place.

I will do that too or at the curb, somewhere it won't roll or hit another car.

That is very sweet of you! When I was younger - my parents' did it because they didn't want me to walk alone. But if it is too far they will put it at the curb (as long as the cart doesn't roll back or anything).

I return the cart, as there is no reason to pay somebody else. People should understand that leaving the shopping carts all over the parking lot increases our costs for groceries. Stores have to hire people to deal with carts and what really bothers me is when somebody takes the cart to their house and doesn't return it. This means the store has to buy more carts to replace the missing ones.

I don't like it when people bring carts all the way home to their house too! That's not right and considered stealing

I always put carts back and sometimes pick up an extra one on the way. And when we arrive at the supermarket we often take a cart each with us from among the cars back to the stalls.

I always put them back. If I don't have a lot of things in the basket I just leave it in the store instead of taking the cart to my car.
