Does It Have To Be Gucci?

Some people get so excited and have so much fun buying for Christmas they go too far out. New Year comes and they are depressed over how much they ended up spending. Here are some tips to help stay out of debt during the holidays. Did you even decide against Black Friday for obvious reasons? Everyone wants to give their loved ones all they can for Christmas but no one wants to go into debt to do it. Here are some rules to go by so that Christmas will not become a stressful time and more enjoyable for all. 1 Stay within your budget. If you are lucky you have been able to set a little back each month with the holidays in mind. If you are not able to look for stores that will give you a layaway plan then here are a few ideas: Kmart.com, HSN.com, and QVC.com. These will give you a layaway plan on a lot of their products. And at least try to only use your credit cards for emergencies only. You may need them later on. 2 Use your common sense. Sure you would like to buy your wife that diamond ring but how many payments are you looking at? Is that going to completely cut out your vacation this summer? And do want to get him that fancy watch you saw advertised? But how much is it going to set you back? 3 Diamonds are not the only option for present buying. Think ahead. In late summer when the vacation is over and you are starting to look toward Fall think about the holidays coming up. Start planning for what you know is coming. Out of season sales are a good place to find presents for family members. Keep it in mind when you see infomercials and late night gizmos you know he would love for sale on the television. 4 Be a smart shopper. If you start cutting back on the more expensive cuts of meat after the last big barbecue you could save a considerable amount on monthly grocery bills. Find community store sales on non-perishable items. 5 Does it have to be Gucci? Do all the presents have to be name brand? Could you get that one special item and then go down a rung on the brand name ladder? Thrill her but don't make the next year a hell on Earth. 6 Beware of scams and fraud during the holidays. If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is. And, if the salesman is trying to hurry you into the sale- THINK!

Exactly! Christmas should be more about family and less about 'stuff'.

@Jessicalynnt .....Yes. You could make some nice gifts for very little really. Is Janet your sister? With your dog(s) you could make some cute pictures.

@celticeagle I am going to have some photos taken for a good chunk of my presents for people, mom, gram, janet and dad all like having photos of me, I may get some cheap frames and decorate them too, world's best dad, etc. that should cover the bulk of christmas, with no need for more than a few dollars

I agree. I tend to buy me useful things like Medical insurances instead of branded stuff..

Other than the kids that I've already written about - we don't buy for anyone except ourselves and the dog...and this year since I just got my computer that is probably the end for me LOL. We buy what we need/want during the year. I've been one to rack up a bunch of credit card bills.

Yeah, makes Christmas short lived in my estimation. Happy for a minute and then you see the bills. Ugh!

I'm so out of the loop. My Christmas gifts might cost 50.00 each tops- well, 50 for hubby and way less for house mate and then daughter gets a little more than 50.00. Our main gift this year will be new floors if they do not cost too too much.

That is great advice. So many people overspend at Christmas and they struggle after the holidays to get by. You have to stay within your limits
