From 32K To 32 Million Canadian Dollars

Philippines
November 17, 2016 11:05am CST
At first, Patrick Estacio thought he won $32,000 Canadian dollars. Then he was told it was actually $32.7 million! The solo winner of the 6/49 Loto-Quebec jackpot draw last November 9, 2016 is a 41-year-old Filipino residing in Montreal. He came to Canada two years ago, works two jobs, and rents a room. Today, 1 Canadian dollar is 36.95 Philippine pesos, so $32,707,357.00 would amount to Php 1,208,536,841.15. The retailer's commission is $327,073. I hope the owner shares it with his or her staff. Being a lotto ticket seller seems to be a reliable business, too, since you have a regular share in the ticket sales and people keep buying tickets, anyway. Would you rather operate a lotto outlet than be a megajackpot winner? How much of the jackpot commission would you share with your employees? Source:

I'd rather be a lotto winner, but I have to share it and choose the needy ones.

for me it depends on the amount. if it's 1 to 5 million pesos, yes, but something that huge would be scary. who would you help @acelawrites? how do you make sure they benefit from it long-term?

yeah, i was thinking the income is more reliable and long-term, since you will always have buyers as long as it's in a good location.

I am always happy for those who win lottery but I was never a gambler and never really tried lottery or any kind of gambling so I certainly have no choice between the two.

@hereandthere I really don't know. But it is more than I need so my relatives and my church will surely get their share and also charitable institutions.

The Lotto outlets do not have a share in the ticket here.

@hereandthere No the lottery winnings are not tax free, you pay taxes on them. The lottery tickets are sold by the magazines and newspaper vendors.

if I get to pick BEING a winner I would take that, but if its just a chance at, I'd take the selling of. If I got 327000, and am going to assume 10 employees, since most places are small, I'd give them each 10K or so!

sharing 10k each for 10 employees equals 100,000 or 1/3 of the commission is a good percentage. i wonder if some of them will quit afterwards? hehe.

@Jessicalynnt exactly! so if i were the boss, i'd do it as a surprise, one employee at a time. hehe.

I have never bought a ticket and I hope I never will. I promised God that I would never again (once I slopped) gamble and I hope I can keep that promise.

I don´t usually buy lottery tickets, but I would love to win the biggest prize. And I cannot imagine any person who will say no to it. As for people who operate a lotto outlet here, I don´t know if they recieve any money.

I don't play any of them, so I will never win. I cannot seem to let go of the first dollar to pay for a ticket.

$32.7M? Grabe! I hope Patrick knows how to spend that money! BTW, if I were a ticket seller with winning #s, I will definitely share my commission with my employees. Will call it bonus, every time!

i also think filipinos get surprised when they go overseas at how high the cost of living is. anyone would be happy with 32k, even just 3,200.

Wow...what a nice story. Congrats to him. Glad the money went to a hardworking person. I wasn't aware that the lotto outlet allow the owner to get a commission. Well, not here in Trinidad. My brother rents out the place to the lotto vendor and the person who purchases the winning ticket get the jackpot minus the Government taxes. No commission for any one. But if I were to win the lotto or the commission I will share. However, this is not always a good thing to share...people are so greedy, it's never enough. Usually there are huge fights..and killings...so, better not to share.

Both... Hihihi I want to be the owner and the winner so that the entire winnings will be mine. LOL -greedy- hihihi But of course, I will share my winnings to my family and to those who are in need. Maybe I will just leave some for myself if ever I will win.
