More to the story

I wrote yesterday about the 'eye on the post' but I forgot the sequel. Once the boss worked out that the labourers were covering his glass eye with a hat (so the eye couldn't watch them to make sure they kept busy) he put his false teeth next to the eye. I don't know what happened after that. And I haven't caught a cat – or a skink – or anything else in the cat-trap. The photo is of my uncle with a couple of tamar wallabies which he had as pets. Here is the link to the first post:
I just read a post by Gus Kilthau (@ceerios) entitled 'The Dance' and it reminded me of a story I was told about the early settlers. Some of the early...

You really want to catch a cat, put out an empty box. He'll find it!

Yes, they love boxes don't they? I've seem great YouTube clips of cats in all shapes of boxes. Our little cat always loved boxes too.

Oh that little wallaby in the photo is adorable. I thought they were chickens until after I read through the post. Why the man set his teeth there seems to be a little bit of a mystery.

Well, if the men crept up with the hat, the teeth would bite them. This was a very long time ago and the aborigines were quite primitive then. They would never have seen a glass eye or false teeth.

Now it should be interesting to know what happened when they saw the teeth. Those wallabies are lovely.

@JudyEv I suppose they came up with something creative. Humans can be very creative to avoid working.

Yes, I wonder if they came up with something creative or if they just decided to keep working.

LOL! Now I want to know what happened after he left his false teeth beside the glass eye, Judy! (I'm sure the teeth were to bite anyone trying to cover up the glass eye, but what did the laborers do after he did that? I'm quite sure they did something!)

@JudyEv Well, that figures! Hmmm... I wonder.... Would you mind if I used your story as the basis for one of my own? I think it might be fun to ask people on myLot how they would finish this story, Judy... I could give the link to the first part of your story and you could add the link to the second part of your story to your first part.... You could get more traffic to both of your discussions and I would get the overflow, so to speak. (I'll let you approve my story before I post it, if that is alright with you?)

I never heard what happened after that. :) It would be good to think they came up with a solution but if they did I didn't hear about it.

I think they were nice pets but some of the smaller 'hoppy things' are very timid and never really adapt to domestication. The bigger roos seem more at ease living with people.

@JudyEv oh, i'd not keep one's a pet, though such'd be most temptin' with many critters. i'd a raccoon whilst i t'was growin', 'ts momma got ran o'er 'n t'was'n orphan i raised. that's the closest to 'undomesticated' critters i've 'd 's a pet.

@crazyhorseladycx I'd just about forgotten but it is illegal to keep native animals as pets in Australia. The sanctuaries are all licensed to have them. In Ireland there was an emu at one of the caravan parks. It also had some heritage sheep breeds and other animals. The emu wasn't easily visible as it was considered 'exotic' and if it had been on public display they would have had to employ a veterinarian. The mind boggles, doesn't it?

It's mostly repeated here. The boss put his glass eye on the post because the labourers were slacking off if he went away. So they put a hat over the eye so it couldn't see what they were doing. This was way back in the 'good old days'.

Most wallaby species would be bigger than these. And maybe the proper name is plain 'tamar'. The terms 'wallaby' and 'kangaroo' are sometimes used as generic terms.
