The Invasion Has Begun!

We are making up for lost time.
Last year our Christmas decorations went up on December 24th and were taken down again by noon on the 27th. This was to keep our permanent house guest happy. He does not observe the Christmas season, and would have made our lives uncomfortable if we had followed our normal routine.
We were fortunate that my brother, who doesn't observe Christmas either, was willing to take him for a few days.
This year we have no constraints. Our houseguest has moved into his own home and we can do what we wish without stepping on any toes.
Today, I pulled out my box of snowmen. They are taking up residence on shelves and windowsills. Anywhere that they fit. This has been our tradition for years. The snowmen signal the beginning of the decorating.
Tomorrow we will add more decorations until in a week or so the house has a very Christmasy feel.

I've had a couple of calls. I've visited him, once a week, and kept it casual. It seems to be going well.

@Morleyhunt It is true that doing this there is more pleasure and less stress.

It's too much work to decorate all at once. This way I can savour the experience and everyone else gets to anticipate what will be the next to emerge.

It would have felt a bit bare last year no doubt. It was good of you to consider the feelings of your house-guest. It was your father, wasn't it? That is a very cute snowman.

@Morleyhunt It takes a very special, kind person to house seniors I think.

When I was a child we always received an orange for Sinterklaas. I also associate the smell or citrus with Christmas, and my background is Dutch.

No, nice idea, but it would not have worked. This year, we can suit ourselves.

@Morleyhunt That's good. Stress doesn't make the holiday's fun.
